This was my first time running the Monterey half marathon. Once we found parking, we found it easy to pick up our bibs at the expo. There was a volunteer right away to point out the bib pick up area and it was fast and organized. The shirt pick up was the same. The volunteers were friendly and smiling. The shirt was tight on most of the women in our group and we needed to size up the next day at the race so that was disappointing. The men’s shirt seemed true to size. The merchandise at the expo seemed overpriced and we left without purchasing.
Race day came with perfect weather! We felt there were plenty of porta potties and it was a smooth start! Along the route there was a ton of cheer sites and supportive volunteers. The aid stations were well organized. We appreciated the multiple areas of live music or great DJ’s to keep us motivated. The route was gorgeous and had plenty of small rolling hills to add a challenge and one pretty good hill before mile 4. Overall I enjoyed the course and the scenery was exceptional. The course was paved and wide enough to keep up your desired pace. I will recommend this race to friends and look forward to come back next year!
