1st time doing this race in beautiful China Camp State Park located in San Rafael. The course was a big loop with one section of out and back at around 10ish miles. Once the race starts the course runs through single track covered in full shade with greenery all around and one can hear streams of water flowing through. After around 2 miles all the runners had run to the top of the hill so the main climbing was between 2 to 5 miles and later downhill till 8 miles with rolling hills to the finish line. Some of the views were breathtaking especially of the Richmond San Rafael bridge, overlook of the bay from the top of the hill, mini island next to the shore and couple of deer sightings.

The race organization seems to be small and surprisingly there were no medals for the finishers which was somewhat disappointing as it’s pretty much the norm these days. Nevertheless, had fun running in this beautiful part of the Bay Area!

Some highlights from my personal experiences after running this marathon:

~ Starts from Volcano National Park on top of the mountain near the Volcano golf course.
~ Small race with maximum 150 runners.
~ Mostly downhill with last 2-3 miles flat.
~ Greenery all around and so scenic.
~ It’s mostly running solo as there are less number of runners.
~ This year approx. 112 runners ran this marathon.
~ Smallest medal in the form of pendant which is made of sterling silver.

Overall, I loved this race in beautiful and scenic Hawaii with downhill course. Allen the race director along with the volunteers did an amazing job in making this low key race a great success. Would love to be back and run this race again in the future.

My 1st ever Marathon happened at CIM in 2016 and this course has special place in my heart. Overall it’s a downhill course but has some rolling hills which can surprise some runners who miss studying the course in detail. If one trains well with some hill training then it can definitely help in PR and a lot of runners BQ on this course. I just PR’d on this course by 20 mins and it brought a big smile on my face! 🙂 Overall it’s a fast course, efficiently organized by the race organizers covering everything from the Expo, shuttle bus service, start line, aid station support and also finish line support. Maybe, the only thing I can think of for them to improve is that they can increase some more porta potties.

Lost Dutchman offers beautiful course with great running conditions from start to finish. Race starts near to Superstition Mountain with camp fires going on before the start to keep the runners warm and cozy. It looks amazing in the dark. They also provided a bus for runners to stay warm inside instead of being outside in cold. I chose the option to stay inside the bus as didn’t wanted to inhale the smoke due to my allergies. There were some snacks, coffee, hot water and enough porta potties.

Race started on time as soon as sunrise started happening and initial 6 miles are on the dirt road with beautiful views. After that the remaining 20 Miles course is on the road going through residential areas and freeways. One of the aid station around Mile 14 (if I remember correctly) had bacon and donuts. Aid station at Mile 16.5 had the best volunteer cheers giving high fives to all the runners! Loved crossing the Wall at Mile 24!

Overall it’s a small size race event and managed very efficiently with lot of great volunteers. If one is looking for scenic course and don’t care about spectators cheering for them then it’s a must do race. This race comes 2nd best in Race Raves for state AZ and the 1st one is Rock n Roll. I did Rock n Roll Half Marathon in 2017 but if I compare my personal experiences then Lost Dutchman would be my 1st in AZ!

This race happens at Lake Chabot Regional Park in Castro Valley, CA. The race starts inside the park on the paved path and later the converts into the trail for most of the course and ends at the paved again for around last 1 Mile. Total elevation of the course is around 2150′ as per my Garmin watch. I like this course as one starts running around the Lake and later into the beautiful trails in the woods. During this time of the year vegetation is usually green with pure oxygen. Brazen Racing did a great job in provideing good aid station support, creative medal and some good food at the finish line (love the It’s It ice-cream). If one did the previous race which is New Year’s Eve then one will receive a connector medal as well. This year New Year’s Eve happened on Dec 30th and the New Year’s Day was on Jan 1st with a day break in between. I did both the races and had a great time!

When I did this race series 2 years back in 2016-17, got cramps during this specific race as the New Year’s Eve Half Marathon was a day earlier and being a new runner my legs took a toll. This time around got PR in NY’s Eve race and got my new course PR in NY’s Day! Happy to end 2018 and start the new year 2019 with a bang!!

This race happens at Quarry Lakes Regional Park in Fremont, CA which is in my backyard with around 5 mins drive. The race starts inside the park on the gravel path and later the converts into the paved for most of the part and ends at the gravel again to the finish line (same as starting line). Overall the course is pretty flat with some minor total elevation of around 200 feet as per my Garmin watch. I like this course as it starts around the Quarry Lake and later the paved course runs next to the Alameda creek. During this time of the year vegetation is usually green. Brazen Racing does overall a great job and provide good aid station support every 3 to 4 miles, creative medal and some good food at the finish line (love the It’s It ice-cream). If one is doing the next race which will happen on New Year’s Day then one will receive a connector medal as well. This year New Year’s Eve happened on Dec 30th and the New Year’s Day was on Jan 1st with a day break in between. I did both the races and had a great time!

This race is part of “Ultra Half Series Challenge” from Brazing Racing. official total elevation of this course is 2718′ but as per my GPS it touched around 3100′. The course is pretty challenging with rolling hills, steep elevation and steep decline and the distance is not exact 13.1 Miles but around half a mile longer. The hills are very dry during this part of the month. I love to do trail running with challenging courses so love this race and was doing second time with my new course PR! Overall it’s very well organised race with plenty aid stations in between, beautiful medal and nice T-shirt! Will repeat it again next year and One Happy Runner!!
