Yes, the organization was good. Yes, the course was beautiful. Yes, the aid stations were numerous and well stocked. Yes. Yes. Yes. All good. But what was truly EPIC were … MORE
Yes, the organization was good. Yes, the course was beautiful. Yes, the aid stations were numerous and well stocked. Yes. Yes. Yes. All good. But what was truly EPIC were the superabundance of mostly sparkling clean porta potties — both at the beginning and throughout the course. Never a line … ever. (But I did run the full marathon, with an earlier start time than the half; so we marathoners had first dibs). I ran four earlier, otherwise well organized marathons in the preceding 7 months (Ventura, Sacramento, Huntington Beach, and Modesto). All had problems with respect to lines … not simply at the beginning, but — worse — along the course. Bummer to be going for your BQ and get runners trots along the way and have to stand in a porta potty line. Not at this wonderful race!
The swag was on the thin side. Basically just a rather plain short sleeved shirt, without even a reusable tote bag, but I’ll gladly forego swag for a clean, immediately available porta potty on demand! Well done!
