About Me

  • Running club(s):
  • Rave race:
  • Race that's calling my name:

    any half in Alaska!

  • I run because:

Running is something that I enjoy. Discovered in HS that i wasn’t half-bad at XC, so have been running on/off since then…definitely more off years than on since college. Did do a few marathons in 2008/2009, but those days are behind me. I’d like to lower my 5k/10k/half marathon times…and eventually run a half or full in all 50 states. I run because i like to feel fit, and it keeps me from going nuts sometimes when things get a little nutty. And I’m all for sporting nice sock tans and watch tans!

A great low key race, which sold out in 2024. Run on the AC boardwalk looking at the ocean. Lots wear green! Like that parking is free at the casino for runners. & the shirt is a long sleeve hoodie, fancy! Only complaint was no bananas or anything at finish . And they gave out bottles of water on the course, which seemed kinda wasteful. But highly recommend, great tuneup for spring halfs & fulls.

Was in Orlando to watch the Trials, so decided this would be a fun way to end my visit. I didn’t favor in that my legs would be super tired from lots of walking and spectating, but that’s OK.
It was cool to run part of the Trials course, and see all the chalk messages for the pros.
It was cloudy and humid, and i felt that at mile 2…the start was very crowded, & no one followed the pace signs that were very clearly placed, which is always a little frustrating, as i don’t want to fall.
It was cool to run the same last stretch as the pros…the medals were unexpected, good post-race snacks and I thought the shirt was great, can wear whenever. (I’m a fan of race cotton shirts vs tech.)

Staying at the beach for the winter, so thought a NY Day 5k on the boardwalk would be fun…and the 1 pm start time was nice, no crazy early wake up. Overall a nice afternoon – onsite registration was smooth, lots of parking (though I did arrive early) and good pre-race instructions. It’s an out and back race on the boardwalk…got a little tight early on, but then thinned out as we got going. And if you wanted to cool off after the race, there was a Polar Plunge event into the Atlantic Ocean!

Decided to run this to get some of the NYC Marathon excitement, without running 26.2. I signed up in April, at which time they had no info. on logisitcs. I didn’t realize until a few weeks before that bag drop would be 2 miles from the start line…if i could have sold my race entry, i would have, but I ended up navigating the subway, walking to the start and overall having a nice morning. Race was very crowded, and it’s frustrating when people don’t seed themselves correctly, but I had a good race, ran even splits and didn’t trip or get knocked over. Loved the hat that we got, and lots of good post-race snacks. Took a bit of navigating to get back to the bag check area from the finish – they had some paths closed – but was able to find it w/ the help of some other runners. Overall a fun day, but probably won’t do it again.

Ran this inaugural race in my mom’s town. I run a lot when I’m there, so I’m familiar with the area. It was a really fun day and very well supported by town residents. Course was a flat loop course around the lake, with great fans at the finish line. I’m always happy when there are post-race bagels, and the awards ceremony was well-presented. Only tips are to register early, as the t-shirt cutoff is early; and parking at the event location can be tight – parking is available across Pascack Rd. on the neighborhood streets. Looking forward to running this race again – my mom loves to see my run, lol! She can’t keep talking about how much she enjoyed it.

Randomly set my sights on this race last year…and registered w/o any travel plan. I knew that the race had a great reputation (beyond just the ginormous medal) and thought it’d a fun weekend trip. Overall had a great weekend…loved the expo, some great deals and everyone was very friendly.

The city is very walkable, so easy to get around. Nice race shirt, and well, the medal…it’s fab!

Race-day – loved having indoor access to bathrooms in the convention center, and overall just a smooth process. Lots of friendly folks in the starting corrals too. I had a basic idea of the course from the maps, and found it enjoyable. Lots of great crowd support with fans, DJs, etc. Going back over the bridge at apx. mile 7 was a little challenging (and humbling, as I heard the 1st male finisher cross the finish line, lol), but I kept plugging away. A few hills, but overall really enjoyed it. Mile 12 was great, downhill and then a smooth shot to the finish.

And the post-finish area was well organized and then having some tables to sit and gather yourself were nice as well. So glad I went!

This was my 2nd half marathon of 2022. I knew the course would be hilly, and trained the best I could, but a few colds derailed me training some (thankfully not COVID). So my goal going into the race was to finish – no time goal.

I had registered back in November, so I’d been looking forward to this trip for a long time!

It was my first “normal” expo, and I really enjoyed it. The volunteers were super-friendly, great merchandise available to commemorate the event, and so much race swag! My suitcase was packed.

I was a little overwhelmed on Sunday morning trying to find the baggage check buses, but a few runners let me tag along and made sure I ended up in the right spot.

Lots of fears about rain on race day were taken over by the humidity. It was warm at the start, and I tried to be conservative in pace before I reached the hills. And well, the hills definitely disappoint. I just kept moving, and knew we’d eventually get to mile 10!

Course support was awesome, especially the cop who high-fived runners and blew his whistle everytime, and those handing out tissues and oranges.

I was on my own, so after finishing, grabbed my stuff, my celebratory beer, and then headed back to my hotel.

It was a great experience, and has me itching to travel for more races. And I’ll be back at the Pig again in a few years…gotta conquer those hills!

I also recommend joining the race’s Facebook group – so much good information was shared!

This was my first half-marathon since 2008, and I ran it as a member of the fundraising team for The Pink Agenda, to honor my sister, who has breast cancer.

I enjoyed the training, and was in great shape. My goals were to finish, and then to break two hours – and I did both!

Lots of great communication from NYRR about the race, and easy to follow the crowds on race day. Felt like a New Yorker taking the subway to the start at 6 am, LOL.

Enjoyed running through the streets of Manhattan and Brooklyn, and the Manhattan bridge wasn’t as bad as I thought. Running the FDR got a little boring, but then once you’re off the FDR, the crowds carry you through.

Great tracking app, and liked sharing my stats via Twitter too. And got some good tips from the NYC Runs community on reddit.
