I highly recommend. I was blessed enough to be a Boston 2 Big Sur Finisher. I stayed in Monterey and it was perfect. There was so much to do. The Monterey Airport is only a few miles away and the Casa Munras Hotel was about a block from bus pickup, across from Trader Joes and an easy walk to the Expo and Pier. I really wish I’d stayed longer to take in more of what Monterey has to offer, but I still did a lot! The weather is usually perfect. We had a perfect cloudy day with cooler temps. It was a serene experience and I was surprised I didn’t miss the big crowds I’m used to from Boston and Chicago etc. Of my 25 marathons, this was no doubt the toughest, but 13 after Boston I just took it easy and enjoyed the course. I walked up HP and about half the other inclines. I saved my legs to have good downhills. For B2B, you can’t beat it. The medal, the jacket, the spread under a big tent that looks over the finish line. It’s own porto johns! We were very spoiled. One thing is this is a bit different than a big marathon, like Boston, in which so many runners go alone and meet others. It was more of a family and group scene and I went alone. So plan for that. Also, that same bus depot across from Trader Joes has a bus that goes to the airport. It’s so convenient, but I didn’t know about it. The expo was nice. The Race Director and staff were accessible and super supportive and friendly. I liked the clinics at the expo. Did I mention the course is absolutely breathtaking???
