This was my 3rd marathon and 2nd Cowtown. My first was Cowtown in 2016. I came off a “bad” race in December, and wanted to make up for it in the Cowtown. The communication from the Cowtown is topnotch. There were issues with weather on Saturdays races, and they did their best to keep everyone informed.
The expo is easy to get in and get out, and had the typical expo displays.
We messed up and got our packets as a team rather than at the expo and we were missing things, but that was our team captains fault and not the races. I didn’t even know I missed anything.

Swag: Cool blue and tie dyed race weekend shirt, and matching buff. Race finisher tshirts, long sleeve full and short sleeve half. A cool series medal, and a finsishers lightweight jacket.
Pre-race: It’s top notch. There’s a convention center where you can stay warm, use a real toilet, and get warmed up. And plenty of porta johns.
The race: I think the Cowtown is a better half. So much to see, so much fan support, it’s great. I think it’s pretty typical, but it’s pretty desolate after the turn at mile 10. The half goes thru a park, a few “sketchy” areas, into the historic stockyards, up a pretty steep hill, and into downtown. The only negative I have, and it’s a personal thing, is the part where you’re running on uneven bricks.

The goes thru neigborhoods and by TCU, by the zoo, the Colonial, and the last few miles are on a trail in a park. There is one point where you run by a few restaurants that look over the Trinity river, and you get to get cheered on by people who have already finished the half and are drinking margaritas!

Aide stations are every 1.5 miles, and very well run. There are many pop up aid stations, which saved my tail as well.

I recommend Cowtown and will probably make it a yearly event, either half or full.

The first half is a great course with great locations and spectator support. The second half has poor roads that slope and pot holes, especially near the Colonial. Every turn throughout the race had volunteers and/or police steering the runners, except for a few in mile 25. I almost missed a turn, and I know for fact a pacer did as well. I would prefer to not have to run in the park, as I almost felt like I was no longer in a race.

Other than those things, it’s a well run race.

It’s a great, flat course. The scenery is meh, but it’s a lot of fun on Greenville Ave. Bands, people partying, even in the rain. The roads are potholed at times. The only real issue with the race is that there is not good crowd support at the finish line. I also did not see a clock throughout the race either. I did really enjoy this race. Despite the whether, the post race party was awesome.
