This was my first trail 10k race but I’ve done a 5k trail race before and I run on trails fairly often. But this course was no joke and I wasn’t prepared for the super steep downhill sections. At times I freaked out, but there is no turning back on a trail race or giving up. The views were great. The volunteers were amazing. And my fellow runners were a really good group of people. And there’s pretty decent swag!

It’s a really beautiful course with just a few small hills. Most of the race is along the ocean or near a wetlands area and even though there is no shade the ocean breeze keeps it cool. I also really loved all the encouragement runners got from not only the TONS of volunteers but from locals who came out with hilarious signs and musical instruments. The finishing medal is so unique and beautiful and the long sleeved tech shirt is great too. (But that’s pretty much the only free swag.) And after the race you get to enjoy a free beer on the sand. Definitely a perfect first half-marathon experience for me!
