The Woodrow Wilson Bridge Half Marathon was ranked in Runner’s World magazine as one of the 27 BEST half marathons in the United States, out of more than 1,500 half marathons in the nation! But it is more than just the scenery. We have developed a first-class destination half marathon … MORE

This was my first half marathon so I was super psyched to get my first race medal. Never happened. Said they would mail them- it’s been months and no sign of ever receiving one. I tried contacting anyone- it’s impossible to speak with anyone actually running the race. Very frustrating. Just run the parkway and bridge on your own time- it would pretty much have the same result.

This race was the worst organized I have ever run. To date I never received my shirt or medal. I paid for mail delivery and all I got was 4 safety pins and my bib. After multiple emails I still have not received a shirt or medal or even an answer as to why. I will never ever run a race put on by Crucible again.

This race was put on by the same crooks who cancelled several of The Great Chocolate Races without giving any explanation or refund. In short: it sucked. This was my first half marathon and I have nothing to show for it. They never gave us our medals- although they lied repeatedly and told us they would be sent out. They never gave us our half zips. There were no race photos. There ARE NO OFFICIAL RESULTS posted anywhere (?!) They cancelled the shuttles to the starting line the day before. I had to run/walk two miles from the “official hotel” in sub freezing temperatures at 5:30 in the freaking morning. Michael and Jodi Barder have stopped responding to emails. They’ve deleted the FB page to the great chocolate race after people started leaving angry reviews and it’s only a matter of time before the wilson bridge page goes (although there is now this: http://www.facebook.com/notthegreatchocolaterace). Oh. And Michael deleted his linkedin page. Shady. Shady. Shady.

Pretty badly run. Paid for the bib mailing option but they didn’t mail the shirts with the bib. Didn’t have the medals at the end of the race because they were stuck in NJ, SI the option was given to pick them up at a store or they would be mailed off upon request. Once requested a status was given that they would be mailed off that week (a week after the race). 5 weeks later I still don’t have my medal and no status has been provided to any of the runners even after repeated inquiries. The Facebook comments say it all. Apparently they (Crucible) had to cancel another race shortly after in Arlington with little to no warning due to lack of permits. I do believe this would be a great race if you take Crucible Running or racing out of it. They are shady and I don’t believe I’ll ever get my medal. Worst racing experience I’ve had.

I signed up for this race because I had run part of the course during the G.W. Parkway Classic and wanted to knock out another 13.1 before the season ended. The course (or at least the first ten miles) was the best thing about this race. Relatively flat, well-shaded, scenic, everything that would set the stage for a PR. The last 3.1 miles was an out and back on the Woodrow Wilson Bridge. It got a little crowded, but not too bad.

That’s where the good part of the race ended. The pre race and post race was in an apartment building parking lot and was quite skimpy. It reminded me of the 5k my local high puts on rather on of the “top rated races” in America. The start line wss well marked, but I noticed that the staff moved the electronics to the finish line instead of having a second set of timing mats.

The worst part of the race was the post race. There were no finishers medal. I got an email stating that they were available at a running store a week after the race and medals would be mailed to anyone who couldn’t make it to the store. Well it’s over a month post race and still no medal. The race organizer hasn’t answered my messages.

The rest of the post race also sucked. What was advertised as “craft beer” turned out to be Miller Lite and Bud Light. Then last thing I want after 13.1 miles is near beer. The G.W. Parkway Classic gives out Port City. There was really not much going on post race and so I left.

Cross this race off unless a better organization takes over.

I was traveling to Virginia for work, so who doesn’t sign up to do a half marathon while there especially when you are an aspiring 50 stater and haven’t run in Virginia yet?
Registering for the race was smooth and was actually pretty excited to run this based on their facebook page, website and also the article in Runners World.
Starting with packet pick up-disorganized-while I love kids, they had kids handing out shirts & bibs-yes that’s all you got so it took a bit of time.
Due to the smaller number of participants, shuttle buses were not offered after the fact. I purposely booked my hotel near the shuttle site and then had to drive to park on a side street near the race.
Race starting line was not well marked nor was I directed where to park. I saw alot of other people parking and assumed at 5:45 in the morning, they must be fellow runners.
It was so cold on race morning!
The race finally got started-learned you run 4.5 miles out only to turn around and run back where you came from. No aid stations on the entire course offered sports drinks or energy gu.
No spectators though the police were on top of it. Felt super safe as roads were all closed off.
At the finish line, no medals were handed out! They had posted renderings online and boasted about them yet they were not at the finish line! I have never finished a half marathon without a medal!
Emailed, facebook messaged etc-any form of communication possible to understand how I get my medal. Finally, the race coordinators responded that medals were delayed and they were working through the logistics of getting the medals to participants. It has now been 3 days and still no news.
I paid a lot of money to run in this race and their token mascot (a large Woodrow Wilson) did not even make an appearance. I have no medal still either.
Overall, super disappointed. I would not participate in this race until they figure out how to properly host.
