The Wilson Creek Frozen 50k offers a unique, winter running experience on the stunning Wilson Creek trail system in January. Runners will traverse the Reynolds Creek gorge and summit Wilson Peak while braving the elements and enjoying the scenery and wildlife viewing opportunities. These trails showcase southwest Idaho at its finest during a time of year when most people are watching the weather from the warmth of their homes.
If you are looking for an epic adventure on the trails in January, you will not be disappointed. We could be treated to anything from temps in the 40s with egregious mud to pouring rain to sub-zero conditions with wind and ice like the arctic. Come prepared for anything and bring your good attitude and sense of adventure. You should carry at least two water bottles or a hydration pack. This is not your fall road marathon that has fully stocked aid stations every mile. 50k and 20 mile runners are advised to bring traction devices and/or trekking poles if conditions warrant, an emergency whistle, space blanket, headlamp, outer shell layer, and knowledge of the course.
50K
- Both loops will be run in a clockwise direction.
- The 20.3 mile loop has 4500′ elev. gain and 10.8 mile loop has 1500′ elev. gain for a total of 6000′ elev. gain in the 50k run.
- Low of 2565′ and high of 5340′
- 43% singletrack and 57% road/doubletrack
- There is a 7.5 hour (3:00 pm) cutoff to leave mile 20.3.
- 50k runners will have an aid stations at miles 2.5, 13, 20.3, 25.3.
20 Mile
- The course will be run in a clockwise direction
- ~4500′ elev. gain for 20.3 miles
- Low of 2714′ and high of 5340′
- 69% (14 miles) of road or doubletrack; 31% (~6.3 miles) singletrack
- Aid stations at mile 2.5 and 13
10 Mile
- This course will be run in a clockwise direction
- The 10.8 Mile contains 1500′ elev. gain
- Low of 2565′ and high of 3689′
- 83% singletrack and 17% road/doubletrack
- One aid station at mile 5
