Race Description
Join the celebrated Valley Crest Trail Races, a cornerstone event for runners since 2002. Featuring a Half Marathon and a 10k, this race takes you along the historic and picturesque “Dirt” Mulholland, known as “The Friendliest Race in L.A.” With a blend of challenge and accessibility, it’s perfect for competitive athletes and trail-running newcomers alike.
Experience the unique character of “Dirt” Mulholland. This 1920s ridgeline trail, originally built to display the San Fernando Valley’s real estate potential, offers stunning northward views and southward vistas of canyons and the ocean. Don’t miss the remarkable sights from the Nike Missile Site overlook, presenting 360-degree views of Los Angeles and its surroundings.
Scheduled in late June, the race promises ideal L.A. summer weather – warm and sunny with clear skies and a gentle breeze, enhancing the natural beauty and challenge of the course. It’s an inviting setting for runners to enjoy the scenery and test their limits.
The Valley Crest Trail Races invite you to experience a run rich in history and natural splendor, providing an unforgettable day of trail running adventure.
For our competitive runners, there’s more! The female and male winners of the half marathon will each receive $200 cash prize. Break the half marathon course record (Men’s 1:11:52 from 2010, Women’s 1:23:41 from 2016) and win a $100 bonus. If the records stand, the bonus increases next year by $100. The winners will also get a free entry to defend their title next year.

Known as “The Friendliest Race in L.A.”, the Valley Crest Half Marathon is a popular trail half-marathon on historic Mulholland fire road that treats runners to beautiful spring foliage and magnificent valley and ocean views. In it’s 17th year, this challenging but fast race makes perfect competition for the serious runner and is also “user friendly” enough to be a great first-timer trail run! The course is entirely on city-maintained fire roads in early June and typically has cool, overcast weather. We look forward to having you run with us!
