“I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but gravel, or allroad, is kind of a triathlon thing. Just look at the front page of the Slowtwitch Forum right now. Maybe three threads on it, right now, on gravel, the bikes, the races. Gravel is really where road and tri meet. Multisport gravitates to it because we like tech – a lot – and we like moving from one endurance paradigm to another.” – Dan Empfield, USAT Hall of Famer
For this reason, Epic Races is excited to present to the Ugly Dog Triathlon. Distances includes: Sprint (choose 30-mile bike or 10-mile bike), Aquabike, Duathlon or Relay.
This is a “Road Optional” event, so naturally, your road choice is optional. Like gravel? Choose the “Ugly Dog” gravel option. Don’t like to get dirty? Choose the “Pretty Dog” pavement option.
Swimming not your thing? Do the du! Prefer swim, bike, done? Sign up for the aquabike!
All Ugly Dog events are draft-legal. Pretty Dog is NOT draft-legal. It follows standard USAT non-draft rules.
Interested in gravel but unsure of what kind of bike to ride? You can use almost any kind of bike — whether it’s a mountain, hybrid, cyclocross, gravel, or even a road bike. If you choose to ride a road bike, we recommend using a tire designed for gravel roads.
Stick around immediately after your race to hang out in the Ugly Dog Distillery Signature Summer Spritzer tent for a complimentary cocktail (participants 21 and up). The official post-party will be held at the Ugly Dog Distillery in downtown Chelsea.
