Tarpon Triathlon

The Tarpon Triathlon is a sprint distance triathlon and consists of a 150 meter pool swim (staggered start), a 10 mile bike and a 3.1 mile run.

For the swim, racers are seeded according to their approximate swim times to improve the flow & safety in the pool.

The bike course is a 10 mile out & back on Southdown Mandalay Rd. The road has gentle curves & is along the tree lined Bayou Black.

The 3 mile run course proceeds partially along a small track around the Bayou Black Park, then onto Southdown Mandalay Rd. Again, with its gentle, tree lined curves, it makes for nice scenery during your race!

The Tarpon Triathlon originated in 2009 as a way to fund the Bayou Black Tarpons Swim Team, a public recreational swim team. Since then, the proceeds have allowed the team to purchase necessary equipment, timing systems, & a storage shed, while keeping the cost to families at a minimum. The team consists of more than 200 kids from age to 4-18.
