The Sudbury Road Race event includes a 5-kilometer race (walkers welcome) and a 1-mile fun run (all ages welcome). Both races begin and end at Ephraim Curtis Middle School.
This event is a fundraiser for the Sudbury Historical Society History Center and Museum. Opened in July 2021, the Sudbury Historical Society has finished its most ambitious project. The creation of the Sudbury History Center and Museum in the town-owned c1730 Loring Parsonage in Sudbury’s Town Center has been a long time coming. The project has revitalized a historic town asset. It allows the SHS to safely store and exhibit the SHS’s collections, accommodate growing membership and volunteer corps, facilitate scholarly research, and provide a fully accessible historical resource for Sudbury’s residents and tourists.
The nonprofit SHS is an active membership-based organization dedicated to collecting and preserving Sudbury’s historical records, promoting the study of local history, and connecting people to Sudbury’s traditions through educational programming and community engagement. With a vibrant History Center, we can now achieve our mission more easily. The vision for the town-owned Loring Parsonage was to create an inclusive, active, multifunctional facility for all ages. We are so pleased to have had the opportunity to build something outstanding for Sudbury.

My clinic was closed on Veterans day so I decided to see if there were any nearby races so I could have a 3 race weekend and there was this one. Overall this was a fine 5K. It was pretty non descript but also had no issues. It is located in Sudbury, MA which is inbetween Boston and Worcester and about 45 minutes southwest of where I live. The race started at 10:30 so even though it wasn’t super close I could still sleep in. There was a short but sufficient pre race email and the website was updated. It was a smallish race with 140 participants. There is race day packet pickup. The swag item is a shirt but I signed up too late to get it. The shirt is a pretty genetic cotton shirt typical of an event like this and it’s fine I didn’t need it. The race is chip timed. It is a loop course through neighborhoods around the school with a short out and back portion in the middle. Race was well marked though it was open to traffic so we were sometimes running on the side walk. There were course marshals at intersections and plenty of signage. Scenery was pretty typical suburban New England scenery. There were not many back of packers. I think they may have all done the 1 miler option instead. I wasn’t particularly fast today as I used a lot of energy yesterday and was a bit sore but I also wasn’t particularly slow and there were only 10 people behind me. The finish is the same as the start. No medal as per usual for 5Ks in New England. There were granola bars and some treats at the end. Overall this race was completely fine though nothing was particularly special about it. If you are in the Boston or Worcester area and looking for a race to run on Veterans Day it will do.
