The trails of Forest Park are a real treasure for runners and an opportunity to run a race on them shouldn’t be missed. The only 50K held in Portland, the Stumptown Trail Runs route will include everyone’s favorite – Wildwood Trail – but also some lesser traveled and less well-known … MORE

    – Elevation gain: Every so often you will go up a BIG hill, but there is plenty of gently rolling or flat sections. The mud made the hills a real chore. Would be easier on a drier day.
    – Aid stations: Every ~6 miles with the last one being 5ish miles from the finish. They had everything you could ask for and very nice volunteers.
    – Scenery: If you’re unfamiliar with Forest Park like I was, it is literally a forest park. Cool trees and stuff but no real vistas.
    – Production: Great race production and course marking. They even had volunteers stationed at the more confusing points.
    – Overall: this was my first 50k and I did most of my training before I moved to the PNW from a very flat island. I wouldn’t recommend this one for your first 50k unless you have the opportunity to do a lot of hill training and serious hiking.

Participated again in this GoBeyondRacing production here in Portland Oregon proper on the locals favorite trails in Forest Park. Nice course that highlights the park and is challenging at same time. Todd and Renee the race directors always do a great job and do a tremendous job at all their events in terms of recycling and minimizing waste. Memorial Day starting line National Anthem tradition and high fives from Todd at the finish line with finisher pint glasses (and free beer available and food afterwards). Fun all around except the to be expected trashed calves and quads at the end.

GoBeyondRacing does small ultra events around Oregon very well. Trail Factor 50k is no exception. Showcases sections of Wildwood trail in Forest Park and manages to find some decent vert. MORE

The course is beautiful and tough and the post race grilled cheese sandwich was amazing. Race finishers claimed a nice medal and a unique pint glass, and they had a raffle with a bunch of winners. Terrific event.
