This was a good race. It was my first trail race so I don’t really know if they are all like this, I can’t really compare it to road races. There were 2 aid stations that were help your self style. The course was a loop course, for the half marathon you did 2 loops. Very technical trails. There were no awards or finisher medals. But the race was a lot of fun!

I do not think the word "typical" can be applied to trail runs. E.G. I was going to say they have fewer runners, but then I though of an exception. But many: are more scenic; are under 1000 runners total; have aid stations with more than water, sports drink, and gel; have unpaved courses; are hilly. There are exceptions to every point, and trail runs tend to reflect the personality of the organizer. For me personally, I'll take the less scenic trails over most city neighborhoods and business districts. And I like the smaller number of runners and sometimes family-like atmosphere. Many runners, though, find the bigger events and supportive spectators exciting. The big thing, I think, is to have fun out there, wherever "out there" is. LESS
