This was an amazing race experience with some unforgettable moments.
The course itself is the most difficult and technical imaginable – you’re in for a bad time if you’re not wearing trail running shoes, without which you won’t be able to safely take advantage of the steep declines following several-minute-long climbs without risking sliding off the edge of trail out of control.
There are sections of the course that have you climbing up a steep incline for 5+ minutes at a time, and it’s daunting to look up ahead and see no reprieve in sight. There are also sections where the trail is so thin and winding that there is only width for a single foot step before it crumbles down into the ravine below. You’ll rarely be bored – it’s a fun and engaging run that requires you to stay constantly aware of your surroundings and where your feet are landing, which can get tiring.
Despite (or maybe because of) the great challenge this course presents, the highs are incredible. Reaching the top of each hill, particularly the first seemingly unending one, runners are rewarded with a picturesque panoramic view of the valley before a rapid descent. The trail itself is generally well maintained, and the scenery is varied and interesting throughout the 13+ miles. There are 5 aid stations for the half marathon, and each had a wide assortment of water, electrolytes, and snacks as well as support from great volunteers.
Overall I had a fantastic time despite being not quite up to the challenge physically, and I’m looking forward to giving it another shot next year with more training under my belt.

The setting was beautiful and unusual. Felt very much like an off planet backdrop at times. The tunnel was very cool.
The lack of mile markers had me guessing how far along I’d gone but that may be a ‘trail run thing’?
I am very much interested in returning to the future races for Space Rock
So tough but worth it
Really tough 2nd half! Pushes you to your limit. Got me asking myself why I chose the 10K instead of the 5K. So glad I went for the longer route! MORE

Walkers need to stay to the right, runners to the left. Their timing is off by 3 minutes. Other than that, it’s definitely worth the time and $$. MORE

I have done every Spacerock from the very beginning, and have loved it every time! The course itself is extremely challenging, but the scenery is well worth it. The race production itself and the volunteers are top-notch! The course (at least the parts I saw during my 5k run) is fairly well marked, and it’s wonderful to have enthusiastic volunteers and photographers along the way. I plan on coming back every year and hope to see Spacerock long into the future!

It was beautiful scenery and weather. The trail had a very difficult uphill section that tricked me since it wasn’t visible for the first part of the uphill. But I am dying to do it again next year to see if I can improve my time. Absolutely gorgeous. A well organized race. Food was good at the end. I am a first time racer and it definitely got me hooked. Can’t wait for my next one.

Wow! Definitely a very challenging race with a lot of climbing. But I loved every minute of it. The terrain was so beautiful in a stark, rocky way. The aid stations were top notch with snacks and drinks suitable for an ultra along with friendly and energetic volunteers. I loved the race shirt but do wish it was sized better. The small swam on me and I’m not that small. The medal is one of my all time favorites.

A Trail runner’s delight. Challenging course and gorgeous scenery. Super fun theme and well organized event. 10K course will be different next year in order to avoid the single track up and back traffic. New 15K distance will be added which is very unique. I’ve run the 10K twice and plan to run the half (which is closer to 14 miles) next year. Can’t wait!
