Cascade Crest – 3 Day Semi-Supported Training Weekend
Cascade Crest course: Up to 75 Miles Total Elev. Gain: 16,969’
The training camp is based at the Washington Alpine Club’s Guye Cabin in Alpental, WA. The cabin is located on Erste Strasse about a half mile off the PCT. This training weekend will test your ability to run long, in the heat, with big climbs, over varied and rocky terrain carrying a pack loaded with extra food and water. Thorp Mountain, elevation 5,854, is the highest peak of the weekend. This peak comes at mile 16.5 on day 3. There is an ice cold spring ¾ of a mile before the top. Some years there are even a few patches of snow along this part of the trail. Not to be outdone, Day 2 features 29 miles of the famous Pacific Crest Trail. This enormously long peaceful trail follows the ridgeline of the Cascades, weaves through forests, around lakes, over streams and past meadows, all the while being lined with flowers and huckleberries. You can run for hours without seeing another human being. Day 1 features a 15 lollipop loop with Blowout Mt, elevation 5,750, right in the middle. This 3-day tour of ¾ of the CC100 course is a challenge that will push you to your limits. If you survive this weekend, you will be ready for any tough mountain 100 miler.
Description
Three days of running, all on the Cascade Crest 100 course. Come do one, two, or all three days while staying over night in the mountains. Friday is on the NEW part of the course for up to 5 hours (it’s a lollipop out and back) We start at Tacoma Pass and head south, do the new loop and then back to Tacoma Pass, about 15 miles. Saturday and Sunday are “point to point” 50k’s on the middle and end of the course. We skip all of the roads. There are shorter distances available each day. During registration you will choose which days you plan on running. You can change your choices at any time. Please let us know if you have a vehicle that can be used for carpooling on Saturday or Sunday.
Included in the price is ONE NIGHT lodging at the Guye cabin and all THREE DAYS of running. You can bring non-running guests for $20 per night. If you don’t stay overnight that money will go towards snacks out on the course.
Come prepared to be self sufficient for 50k. Study the route on the Cascade website and bring enough food and water.
