Skydive ultra is definitely a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The small, family-sized race event is held in Clewiston, Fl and offers distances from 6.2 miles, half, full marathon, up to 200miles. A lot of the runners and their support crew people were camping around the airfield and for those who wanted the could do a pre-race skydive. The organisation that highly depends on winds and weather ran super super smooth and I was very excited to do my very first tandem skydive. With very experienced instructors that came from all over the states for that weekend it was a unique experience.
I had about 60min after the jump to unwind. The race runs in about 7.2 miles loops around the airfield. So the half and full marathons are a bit longer than the official 13.1/ 26.2 miles. With changing undergrounds from sandy, rocky to gras, it felt very much like a trail race and will not be your fastest time. Two support stations with water, Gatorade, coke and all kind of food were set up. Big medals and belt buckets for the 100m, 150m and 200m finishers. No awards.
The vibe of the experience was amazing, skydivers and runners are a special kind of people- skydiving runners are… go figure yourself!

WOW, Johannes... so much for warming up with a few stretches and leg swings! This race has one of the most unique concepts I've ever heard of, cool to think someone could do their first-ever skydive and run their first-ever marathon at the same event. Even if the course were Berlin-flat, I'm not sure I'd be able to run my fastest time after diving out of a plane first. Amazing to think you got up and ran another half the next morning... clearly they need to add a swim segment to the race next year, to tire you out a bit more. ;) LESS
