The history of the Heidelberg half-marathon would have been the other way around, and that is literally meant. When the first idea for a race track in and around the city on the Neckar were discussed in 1981, it was said: From the start, it should go up to the castle. The first poisonous incline, therefore, on the first few kilometers; hardly a runner would have been able to enjoy the landmark of Heidelberg and the view from above on the river landscape. Christian Kaehler, who was then part of the planning group, was looking for alternative routes and finally found the 21.1 km round, which still exists today: from the old town via the Neckar to the Philosophenweg, to Ziegelhausen and Schlierbach and only then up to the Lock. Anyone who passes Pulverturm and Schlosshof, towards the end of the run.

Heidelberg Half Marathon is extremely beautiful but also extremely tough as runners have to run uphill twice and uphill in this race means heavily uphill for about 5 and 3 k. The views are amazing and start and finish in the historic centre of beautiful Heidelberg is also wonderful. Many spectators along the course! Unfortunately no medal!
