They listened to the feedback from last year and changed the route to include running through the lights for the last mile. Unfortunately, the weather was great and together with the crowds of runners (1400 registered for the sold-out race), there were crowds of (non-runner) people who had come out to enjoy the lights which made for a lot of dodging the last mile. It would be great if they had more course marshals in this area to help keep the running path clear. Also the crowds of people helped themselves to the freebies from the race sponsors so snacks were all out by the time the runners finished up which is unfortunate.
The race announcers did not tell walkers to stay in the back at the start so the start was very chaotic especially because the paths for the first two miles are very narrow and only allow for 2-3 people across at a time. The path is also quite dark which makes it a little dangerous when you are dodging walkers who started right up front and two-three across or large family groups.
Pretty Lights, Lots of Crowds

Run the lights is advertised as an opportunity to run through the millions of lights at Venturian Park but it is really a dark run on the Brookhaven College Loop with only one water station at about mile 2 and lights during first and last quarter miles. Food Trucks/Vendors were a ton of fun except that some ran out before slower folks were done so some were left out. Parking was a disaster, race organizers had parking maps on their website and all but one option was closed because the race ran through them. Reward ceremony started extremely late and some complained that race shirts were not available in size ordered and race sold out prior to race day. This was a first time event, hopefully they learned and things will run smoother in future.
