Wrap up the year with all of your running friends! Recover From The Holidays is an old fashion, no-frills, low-cost 50Km run each year on New Years Eve; but don’t let the low key nature of this race fool you, it’s no cake walk! This year Landtrust is hosting our event at the Chapman Mountain preserve. In keeping with our usual format, runners will run 10 repeats of a fun 3.1 mile loop over varying terrain. This race is the final event in the calendar year for the Huntsville Track Club and a great way to wrap up your ultrarunning season. There is a strict 8 hour cut off time; no runners will be allowed to start a new lap after 3:30 PM and anyone finishing after 4:00 pm will not be counted in the official results. Race starts at 8 AM.
There is LIMITED PARKING at the Chapman mountain parking lot. To make sure we accommodate everyone, we will be providing a shuttle. You may park your car at Optimist Park (703 Oakwood Ave NE, Huntsville, AL 35811), it is located 2.5 miles and a 5 minute drive from the race site. There you will be able to park your car and catch the shuttle. If you’d rather drive your personal car to the race site, please make sure that you have at least ONE fellow racer to car pool with. We will be heavily reliant on carpooling and shuttle to make sure we have space for everyone including volunteers on race day. Thank you for your cooperation!
Course Description
The 50km course consists of 10 loops of the figure-8 shaped 3.1 mile course at the Landtrust Chapman Mountain preserve. The footing is a mixture of some single track trail, hard packed dirt with rocks and roots, with some short sections on crushed stone. The course runs on various trails located on the Chapman mountain preserve. The miles are marked with signs and the arrows along the course guide runners which direction to take. Runners will have access to bathrooms, an aid station, their own aid (should they bring it), and a covered pavillion each loop. Runners will pass by the main pavillion area twice on the loop which makes this a great spectator friendly event for your friends and family (if you can convince them to come stand out in the cold!)
Aid Station
There will be a single aid station at the start of each 3 mile loop. Typical ultra-running fare will be offered including water, Sword, MM’s, chips, etc. You are encouraged to carry or use your own water bottle so that we can try to minimize the amount of paper cups used. You may also bring your own table/chair to set up at the turn-around with your own supplies.
