The annual Rattling Creek Run (RCR) is located in Weiser State Forest in the Haldeman Tract, about 40 minutes NE of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
This year, 30K and 10K distance options will be offered. There will NO LONGER be a 50K. By taking out the 50K option, this allows for our 30K version to have more singletrack. The 30K will now have 3 miles less of gravel road in the route and allow for 4 more miles of singletrack trail.
The 30K course will start with a 1.8 mile climb up a gated forest road. Once at the top you will meet aid station #1. Once past AS1, you will have a short section (.3 miles) of gravel road till you get into the first trail section of the course. For the next six miles you will run on some great singletrack. You will experience some smooth trails, some rocky sections, a few rock gardens and then towards the finish of the trail with two amazing bridge crossings over Rattling Creek. If you’ve never seen this creek, you are in for a treat. \The creek is so clear that you can see to the bottom with no issues. With the trail being way out in the woods, you will hear nothing but the flow from the water. We always stop here for a quick snack and a drink to take all of the beauty in. Once past the bridges, you will pop out to a gravel road and find aid station #2. You will then turn left back onto some singletrack. This section is about 3.8 miles of more smooth trails, some rocky sections, and a few rock gardens. The next two miles will have you on doubletrack trail till you reach aid station #3. Once your past AS3, you will have a mile of singletrack trail that is nothing but rocks. Once you cross the road you will be back on smooth singletrack trails with a few rocky sections. The last 2.5 miles will finish on gravel and gated forest roads with an amazing vista view at the hang glider launch before you descend on the forest road down to the finish.
The 10K course will start with a 1.8 mile climb up a gated forest road. Once at the top you will meet aid station #1. Once past AS1, you will have a mile of singletrack trail that is nothing but rocks. Once you cross the road you will be back on smooth singletrack trails with a few rocky sections.
