Located at the Glenworth Valley Outdoor Adventure facility, a one hour drive north of Sydney CBD, Ragnarians will find a gorgeous 3000+ acre wilderness property. This venue features wooded trails perfect for running and plush grass great for camping as teams experience the magic of Ragnar Village. Teams run relay-style on “green”, “yellow”, and “red” loops as they meander through the forest past rivers, streams and ponds. At night as the sun sets, the celebration comes alive under a bed of stars where you will enjoy campfires, s’mores, movies and a party atmosphere.
The course at Ragnar Trail Glenworth Valley features wooded single trails and graded fire trails. This course is fun and suitable for runners of all abilities. There’s no arduous vertical climbs as you scamper up a mountainside on hands and knees or anything like that at Ragnar Trail Glenworth Valley. The course is undulating and there’s sections that will challenge you, but nothing that you can’t conquer with some training.
The first Ragnar Trail Glenworth Valley loop is the Green Loop which takes runners to the North of the main Ragnar Camp Village for a scenic run through the wooded fire trails, which are normally used for guided horse tours. You’ll run through a canopy of lush rainforest along-side the running waters of the nearby stream for the first half of the loop. After a small out and back section you’ll take a hard right circa the half way mark and you’ll head UP on a short, but challenging climb which will begin your travels back to the Ragnar Village. From high on the track you’ll have fantastic views of Glenworth Valley and know that once you’re at the top, it’s all downhill from there. The track is a little technical in places and you’ll need to pay attention on the top half for some small rocks and tree roots. The course is well marked for any hazards, so don’t worry! The track opens up to the main headquarters for Glenworth Valley where you’ll pass the horse stables (and the hundreds of horses who will be looking at you rather strangely!) and back to Ragnar Village for high-5’s and unbridled adulation.
The yellow loop takes runners in a South-Westerly direction along main fire trails on the Western side of Glenworth Valley. You’ll get a great rhythm on this section. It’s undulating, but with clean, wide trails. The course includes a lot of contra-flow sections meaning you’ll see plenty of your fellow runners heading in both directions. A great social run course! The width of the majority of the course means that’s there’s plenty of room for passing in both directions. So, if you’re a little faster, don’t stress, there’s plenty of room for everyone The course deviates from the main fire trail in sections that take you alongside the creek for some narrower single track (single direction) and up and down the ridge to wooded fire trails with some technical sections for variety and challenge.
It may be marked as the red loop, as the hardest loop, however in terms of difficulty the red and yellow loop are very similar. This is marked the red loop as it is the longest. Like the yellow loop the red loop is undulating with a mix of wide, graded trails and sections of single track under a canopy of rainforest. At the half way mark the course opens up into a wide open grass plain which you will run around the perimeter of before making your way in the return direction to Ragnar Village. Like the yellow loop there are sections of the course where runners will be heading in both directions, however, again like the yellow loop, these sections are wide and easy to pass on. Plenty of opportunity for a high-5 or two! There’s some challenging pinches on this loop and your legs will know all about it, especially if it’s your last loop!
