You may have heard of Reebok Ragnar Sprint Florida, well now meet its bigger, better sister event, Reebok Ragnar Sunset Miami. Get ready to experience a relay running festival like never before, happening on February 29, (yep, that’s leap day), at Historic Virginia Key Beach Park.
Join the adventure where your team of 4 will try to outrun the sun taking turns running two scenic loops with water views galore. Loop 1 is 5.6-ish miles of beach views and wildlife sightings – don’t worry, we’re talking flamingos and lizards. Loop 2 is 5-ish miles that will take you across the Rickenbacker Causeway with an epic view of the Miami Skyline. There’s no more arguing about who gets the best legs to run — you all do! Your goal? Finish before the sun sets.
Loop #1 – 5.6 miles
Runners will depart Sunset Village heading west on Virginia Beach Dr. At the exit of the park you’ll begin running south on the Rickenbacker Causeway multi-use pedestrian path. Runners will enjoy stunning water views as they cross the bridge before continuing along the palm tree lined pedestrian path towards Crandon Park. At the 2.8 mile mark runners will follow the pedestrian path within Crandon Park to begin heading north with spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean. At the 4.8 mile mark runners will notice the Ragnar Arch in the distance as they make their return to Sunset Village.
Loop #2 – 5.0 miles
Runners will depart Sunset Village heading west on Virginia Beach Dr. With police assistance utilize the pedestrian crosswalk then continue north on the Rickenbacker Causeway multi-use path towards Miami. You’ll enjoy incredible views of Biscayne Bay on your left and Downtown Miami on your right. At the 2.5 mile mark give the volunteers a high five as you begin your journey back to Sunset Village. At the 4.7 mile mark you’ll head back into Virginia Key Beach Park and finish strong back into Sunset Village.
When you’re not running, party with the rest of your team and lots of friendly strangers at the Ragnar Village Festival. You can set up a sweet spot and lounge with your team while you enjoy live musical guests, food, drinks, massages, and vendors throughout the day. You’ll get to watch the sunset on the beach or even right in the water and celebrate your badassery. Plus, a Saturday leap day won’t come around again for another 28 years, so why not spend this extra day running with your friends?
