In addition to supporting its residents, Granite Ledges is very active in the local community. It hosts many events, but the 5K Race to the Ledges is its largest. All of the proceeds from the race go to the Aging Well Alliance Fund through Concord Hospital Trust. The fund supports … MORE

I was initially planning to go to NY state for some half marathons this weekend but due to getting a new kitten, placing a large deposit on my antarctica trip (and wanting to save money) and already making sun level I decided to stay home and do some 5K. I did this race in Concord, NH Saturday with my dad. Of all the 5K’s I’ve done during my half marathon break this was probably my favorite. It takes place at the Granite Ledges a senior living home in NH that is located right by Concord Hospital. This is a hilly area so I was not expecting a fast course. There was good pre race communication including clear instructions where to park. The start area had bib pick up and a few booth. Packet included bib and a nice shirt. It’s a small race and was chip timed. The first about 1/2 mile is on trail then it is a 2 mile sort of loop through neighborhoods and then back to the trail. The trail isn’t too technical but there are a few rocks and roots. The road has rolling hills. It is all shaded and while not spectacular scenery is nice scenery and also goes past my high school where there is an aid station. At the finish line they call out the finishers. There is an excellent breakfast for a small 5K Definitely the best post race food I’ve had for a smaller 5K with just over 100 participants. There were yogurt with granola and breakfast burritos (including a veggie one) among other things. This is a small race and tended to attract a more older crowd so even though my finish time was mediocre I was happy I also was third in my age group and got a pint glass and small medal. Overall this was a very nice, smaller 5K. Probably the best 5K I have done with under 150 runners and I would definitely do it again if in town next year.
