Live LOUD Running proudly presents The Pachaug Trail Runs at Pachaug State Forest in Voluntown, CT.
With its amazing pine forests and mutil-use trails, challenging climbs and descents, as well as some unique geological formations on the course, the race offers runners a one-of-a-kind experience in the extreme eastern part of Connecticut.
Very runnable and a great first 50-miler, with easy access for crew and pacers- it’s three loops of a 16.6 mile course. Weather should be perfect for the time of year. Also offering a 13.1 mile half marathon and a full marathon (two loops of the half course).
Half Marathon
The Pachaug Half Marathon (13.1 miles) will start at the Mt. Misery Ballfield on Cutoff Rd. Runners would proceed north until reaching the blue blazed Nehantic-Pachaug Trail entrance on the left. The first 1/4th of a mile is on the road and is to help spread out the runners before entering the single track. Runners will then run the blue trail up Mt. Misery before descending down the other side. The runners will then make a left on to Fire Tower Rd, a wide jeep road that descends very gradually to intersect with the Pachaug Multi-Use trail and then begin a grinding but runnable climb back towards the Pachaug Trail where they will make a right and follow that until it intersects the Nehantic Trail, where runners will follow that north until they make a right at the old abandoned house, then a quick left back on to the Nehantic Trail. After 4/10ths of a mile the runners will make a right onto Breakneck Hill Rd and ascend until the first aid station at the intersection of Lee Road. Runners will then be funneled on to the Quinebaug Trail for some pine needle single track. After a quick little chicane the runners will be back on the Quinebaug for another 1.8 miles where they will make a right onto Hell Hollow Road, following that for a quarter mile until the second aid station at the intersection of the Pachaug Trail and Hell Hollow. The runners will then make a right onto the Pachaug Trail and take that 4.2 miles back to the intersection of the Nehantic Trail at the parking area and make a left, running on asphalt for about a 1/10th of a mile, then turning right towards the finish area, right back to where it all began. Approximate elevation gain is 1200 feet.
Marathon
The Marathoners will complete two loops of the above course, approx. elevation gain is 2400 feet.
Marathon Relay
Pretty easy – two person teams, each runner runs the half marathon course and hands their bracelet to the next runner. Fastest team wins.
The 50k
Okay, so sue me- it’s more than a 50k. Two of the big loops makes it about 33 miles. You can handle it. There’s about 3200 feet of climbing.
The 50-Miler
The 50 milers will follow the above Half Marathon course until Hell Hollow Road but cross over the road an stay on the Quinebaug Trail up to Flat Rock Road. There they will make a right turn and run on top of an amazing geologic formation of granite that provides the best view of the course. After taking in the scenery, runners will continue towards the Yellow Connector Trail, making a right. After approximately 9/10ths of a mile the runners will make a left on to the Pachaug Trail and then a hard right and follow that south to the aid station at Hell Hollow Road. After topping off on fluids and snacks, runners will continue along the Half Marathon course.
Very runnable and a great first 50-miler, with easy access for crew and pacers- it’s three loops of a 16.6 mile course. Weather should be perfect for the time of year. Also offering a 13.1 mile half marathon and a full marathon (two loops of the half course). Featuring a very generous 13-hour cut off, the 50-miler is poised to become a true New England fall classic. Approximate elevation gain is 4800 feet. Un-crewed runners will have parking preference (basically on the course) so they can access their car as an extra aid station. We will also provide a tented area for drop bags at the start/finish.
