For most runners, traveling to this race involves a ferry ride and a drive down US 101. It’s hard to get more Northwest than that — unless, of course, you throw in a run through big, damp mountains and some IPAs. Welcome to the Olympic Mountains, a celebration of running … MORE

A killer of a race, but killer in the sense of rewarding and amazingly well-organized. In a peaceful, utterly green upper-left corner of the upper left, you’ll be bummed to leave after the race. Anyone who has spent time running races will come to appreciate one organized under the Minimalist principle. Olympia had no starting line or no starter’s pistol, just a huddling and a “ready, set, go!” To offset this, perhaps, the aid stations were loaded to the gunwales with everything any runner, even ones with very specific needs like me, could ever want. This race is HIGHLY recommended, but one trip up despicable Mt Zion will convince anyone that it’s probably not the ideal choice for first time ultras…(I saw the 50-miler sports 2, yes TWO trips up to the top–EGADS!) One of the most rewarding ultras I’ve ever run…
