This race is part of the Capitol Area Race Series (CARS) in Concord, NH which is a series of several shorter races in Concord, NH which is where my parents live. This is a Friday, evening 5K that starts at 6pm. I was planning to be in Concord this evening and normally wouldn’t make it by 6pm but I had a couple cancellations at the end of the day and got to leave work a bit early so I was able to do the race. It takes place at and raises money for NHTI the community college in Concord. Packet included bib and a nice, very comfortable polyblend shirt. The shirt is the only swag but it is a nice shirt for a small 5K. The race has between 100-200 runners so is small but not tiny. It is chipped timed and had excellent production. Probably the best production I’ve seen for a smaller 5K like this. They started with a kids run, announcements and anthem and we were off at 6pm. The race course however is very, very boring. It is just two laps around the community college campus mostly just around parking lots. Similar course to the Winter Warrior race in Rochester. I however completely get why they used this course as it required no street closures and was very flat, easy to run on, and very safe as there was limited traffic other then a few cars leaving the campus. Course was very well marked and there was an aid station in the middle you passed twice. I had a very slow time. I wasn’t planning on doing the race so I didn’t really fuel right for an evening race but I got it done. The course is really flat so you could get a great time if you tried. There was a nice selection of snacks at the end with some fruit, bars, chips, rice krispie treats and an additional booth with some yogurt (including dairy free). Overall this was an excellent smaller race. It was not an exciting course but was flat and easy. I am planning to do a couple more CARS races this summer and will likely do even more next spring and summer when I am not planning to do as many half marathons.
Excellent local, smaller race
