I believe this is sadly the last year for the New Year’s Race so this review probably won’t help anyone but in case it comes back. Overall this is a very fun way to start the New Years. I actually love night races since I am not a morning person so I am always happy to find evening races. I did the 9.3 challenge. I wish there was an option for just the 10K but the 9.3 challenge was fun. The race is in DTLA by city hall which is always a fun and convenient place since there is a metro stop. The 5K was first and I had a goal to run under 30 mins while saving as much energy for the 10K as possible. Somehow I timed myself perfectly and ran 29:59 exactly. It was annoying to wait another hour for the 10K but I understand they want to make this event walker friendly so it is nice that people of all levels of experience can complete this challenge. I was a little tired from the 5K so I ran the 10K at a comfortable pace and had a mediocre finish time but I would be happy with my overall time for a 15K. I think due to previous complaints of hills, they made the course as flat as possible in DTLA. I’m not saying it is completely flat but much flatter than the turkey trot although also not as scenic either but running through the tunnel is fun. You get a total of 3 medals and the 9.3 challenge one is very big along with a sweatshirt if you do the challenge. There is a fun finish area with food trucks at the end. If this race comes back, I would recommend it.

This was my first nighttime race. It was still light out when the race started, but it got dark by the time I finished. The course through the streets of downtown L.A. was very challenging with all of the hills. The cotton t-shirt runs VERY small and it’s cheap, thin cotton, but the medal was shiny & nice. The expo (held at Grand Park) was great. Lots of vendors, food trucks, and a beer garden! Every runner got 2 free post-race beers from Angel City Brewery! The only drawback was that some of the people who did the 9.3 challenge (5K & 10K) were complaining that there was only one medal given out for doing both of those races. Otherwise, it was a great race!

This was my first time in this race. I signed up for the 5k followed by a 10k challenge. I must say that I like running in downtown. I did not like waiting 40min between races. Luckily, the weather was not ok cold. Had it been any colder this Race would of been awful. Overall I had a great time, may consider repeating. Onward. Oh!!! Bring some lights to wear, it is the in thing for night runs.

The race was on Saturday at 6 pm, and my running partner and I couldn’t make the expo the day before, so we went up on the day of the race. The expo was supposed to close at 4 pm, so we got there as it was winding down so we didn’t get to hang out there. I had originally signed up for the 1/2, and I got a cool long-sleeved pullover, but the zipper wasn’t properly centered, and I couldn’t get a proper replacement. Getting there around 3:15 pm means that we had to wait around for a couple of hours before the race, but it’s downtown LA, so there’s plenty to do. We ate and took some pics and joined up with the throng at the starting line.

There were corrals, and the staggered start time allowed for plenty of room as we ran through the streets. Running through downtown at night was fun, and going through the 4th St tunnel was my favorite part of the race.

There’s not much crowd support once you get past the first 1/4 mile. The run up through the hills in Elysian Park is taxing, and the 10K turn-around is just outside the Dodger Stadium parking lot entrance, and from there, it’s a downhill sprint which was a lot of fun. If nothing else, I’d recommend this race for the experience of running back into downtown at top speed.

The post-race had plenty of food and then we had to walk about eight blocks back near the starting line to our car. Good experience overall, and a chance to run downtown at night.

Race started in downtown Los Angeles then went up to Dodger Stadium. Did not expect so many hills. Ran around Dodger Stadium then through it around the baseball field which was cool. My legs were worked out by the end of the race to say the least! You can either park at the end of the race or at the start. However, there is no bus that takes you to and from so pick wisely. Do you want to walk at the beginning of the race to the start or at the end of the race to your car?

This was a very fun race!

The race is at night through the streets of Downtown L.A and the up to Dodger stadium. You pass Dodger Stadium and keep running through Elysian Park. Oh my gosh the hills are just brutal and they do not end till you come back to Dodger stadium in mile 9! I loved it!!!

Running through Dodger Stadium at the night is just amazing! Totally makes you forget all the pain you endured to get there.

The finish line is at the Staples center. Awesome beer garden but be sure to gear check warm clothes.

I did not care for the expo is was small and weird. They give a nice hoodie instead of a shirt and the medal is spectacular. I like that you can take the train there but I did drive and parking was easy and affordable. I only wish they had signs posted on how to get back to your car. The race starts and finishes in two different areas. If your not familiar with downtown LA getting back to your car at 11 pm requires Siri.

I recommend this race and I signed up to do it again! I did overhear my extremely fast friends who have ran all kinds of races saying this was the hardest half marathon they have done SoCal. So be sure to hill train for this one.
