Truly one of those ‘bucket list’ races. Thanks to the awesome pre and post race activities – Destination Races not only promises a great running experience but always and unforgettable day. We are from Vancouver, Canada and flew down for the second year to the Napa-to-Sonoma. This year was unusually HOT (Low 80s by mid-morning) which made for a tough slog. The scenery is tranquil and gorgeous in the morning, although at times a little repetitive, rolling farm land for 20Km. Relatively flat course, makes for generally fast times – on years not dealing with THE HEAT. Fans are a little sparse in between farm communities, but the start and beginning make up for that. The best part of course – and makes this race unforgettable is the Post-Race festitivies. DR does a great job of organizing and really making this feel like a small community race – for such a large event. Brought friends out this year, and will be back again in the future!

I really enjoyed this race. The temp was hotter than normal and some water stations ran out of water. Luckily I was carrying my water bottle. Route has hills especially in the beginning, but the very scenic route will help you forget. After party was fun and even guest (with paid fee) can participate in the wine tasting. Sonoma square is great to go explore after!! Would love to run this half again!

I love the views and the after party. I also enjoy harder races.
It is summer time, so it will be warm, there will be some hills (rolling) and some gravel for a couple miles, you really need to show up early (they close the roads down). It is not easy for spectators to get around to cheer you on, so if you have family/friends coming- have them bring a book or have them show up closer to when you will be finishing, you should also bring cash for food or a cooler with your own food. If you think you need more water than most people, bring your own (same with calories), Then take your time to drink wine and sober up 🙂 I love this winery, they are always great.

This was supposed to be for the Virginia race. Please delete.
I don't think you can bring food into Napa and Napa finishes in Sonoma (the town center), Napa to Sonoma is even prettier than Virginia, in my opinion and the weather is friendlier.

I thought the course was good- very scenic run through the vineyards (and loved the chardonnay at mile 10)! However, due to the time of year, it was incredibly warm. So that made the otherwise enjoyable race not very enjoyable. The after party was great though- one of the best I’ve been too. Very spread out with a good selection of decent wineries and food vendors.

Known as the Best of California HM’s I was pleased with many aspects of the race. The course was pretty, who doesn’t love looking at vineyards! The SWAG was great, wine tasting in Napa with some vineyards I hadn’t been to before. The post-race food was refreshing too. The venue was awesome, so pretty and all the shops were cute. The sad part was the Huge need for water! And that is where they need to improve. The first three stations ran out of water! It was so Hot and yet you couldn’t cool off. My solution would be the large self-serve water stations at every stop or even run a “green race”. The weather was not a surprise, but the lack of water was! Keep the runners safe and make sure they can stay hydrated during the race.

I had read a lot about this race. You can’t beat the scenery- running by beautiful vineyards/wineries in Napa/Sonoma. The only downside is, it was HOT! I wish I didn’t feel so miserable at the end. Running in the heat of California weather was a bummer. It would be great if this race was held during cooler months. Aside from that, this was a really pretty race.

I really enjoyed the race! I thought it was very well organized. The course was a little hilly the first half but the second half was pretty flat. You did have to watch where you stepped in some areas because of the uneven pavement. It was a very hot day and wish there was a little more shade but I am pretty sure the temperature that weekend was not normal. The Finish Festival was amazing! Next year I am planning to get all of my running friends out there to join me.

Beautiful scenery running on the back roads surrounding the wineries. Great finish line! Love my medal.
Only thing to bring my rating down was due to an injury , I was slower than usual and the early aid stations ran out of water. There were still 100-200 runners behind me that weren’t going to get any water. These are the runners that would struggle on the course and needed more water. It was unseasonably warm at the start. Think it was a record high temp for that morning at race start time.
Would love to run this race again!

This was my first time running this race. It was a very well-produced and well-run (no pun intended!) event. The weather was fairly warm and sunny, but the scenery was beautiful. The rolling hills added a bit of a challenge, but overall it was a great course. There were motivational signs at every mile marker to encourage participants. The festival and wine tasting at the end were so worth it!

This is a nice race with a good course getting to see vineyards. The medal is really nice, but overall not worth the high expense to run the race. The water stops early have very few people and are very crowded, so I recommend running with a water bottle at least for the start. The last water stop gets crowded with the 5K walkers as well, so many people stop right in the middle of the water stop making it difficult to get through. Course is pretty hilly so don’t plan on a PR.
