Hosted by the Nanticoke River Swim & Triathlon Association, The Nanticoke Triathlon was first held in 2007. Featuring a flat, fast course and unparalleled after party, it has grown to be one of the most popular sprint triathlons in the region, attracting elite athletes and first time triathletes.
The swim course will be an in the water start and sandy beach finish. The start will begin in shallow water next to a jetty. Swimmers will swim out beyond the end of the jetty, make a u-turn around the last buoy and swim straight back .5 miles.
The bike course is a fast and flat course that takes you from the Nanticoke River (Cedar Hill Marina) to the town of Whitehaven. You will turn around in Whitehaven along the Wicomico River and return on the same route back to Cedar Hill Marina. There will be police officers and volunteers at the major road intersections. There will be volunteers at all other intersections as well as the course will be well marked with signs and road chalk.
The run course will leave out of the transition area opposite the bike entry/exit towards the water. Runners will proceed to their left, counter clockwise and run along the marina thru the parking lot. Runners will then turn left going out of the park the same way they did on the bikes, staying to the far right of the road and to the right of the cones. Runners will turn right on Nanticoke Rd and proceed South toward the turn around running inside the cones on the right hand side of the road. They will bear right on Bivalve Wharf Rd just after the fire house and run down to the water. After the turn around runners will come back the same route until they reach the first marked entrance into the Marina. Runners will turn left here and return back into the marina. They will run down the south side of the marina to a turn around and then come back around to the north side and into the finish chute.
The run is 3 miles and entirely flat. Runners will be able to get a feel for the competition as they leave the park and go by the returning bikers for the first 1/2 mile. They will also see each other throughout the out and back course and the last 1/2 mile takes place within the marina having line of sight to the finish the entire time. This also adds a little more fun for your friends and family spectators. There will be a water station at transition on the way out, at the turn around which is approximately mile 1.5 and once you come back into the marina at mile 2.5.
Nanticoke River Swim & Triathlon Association is a 501-C3 non-profit, committed to promoting the sport of triathlon locally, and to giving back to the community that makes the event possible.
