The Museum of Aviation Foundation Marathon, Half-Marathon and 5K Run/Walk are sponsored by the Museum of Aviation Foundation and the Robins Pacers Running/Walking Club. The three races to be run on Robins Air Force Base next to the Museum of Aviation are part of the Run & See Georgia Grand Prix Series. The marathon course is USA Track and Field certified (Boston Marathon qualifier). The half marathon is also USA Track and Field certified. Proceeds from the growing annual event benefit the Museum of Aviation, one of the largest education-focused aviation museums in the country.
This is a great way to start the New Year with a run on a brisk winter morning. Trophies are awarded to the overall top three male and female finishers in each race, the overall top three male and female masters in each race, the top active duty military male and female in the marathon and the top three finishers in age categories. Six-person relay teams may also enter the Marathon.
All participants receive a colorful shirt. Those who register by December 13 will receive their shirt on race day. All Runners will receive a finisher’s medal.
Disposable electronic chip timing will be used for all races. The start time for the Marathon is 8:00 am (6 hour cutoff). The Half-Marathon will start at 8:15 am and the 5K Run/Walk will start at 8:30 am. Patriotic opening ceremonies will be held in the Century of Flight Hangar.
Because the races are run on Robins Air Force Base, all runners are REQUIRED to show a valid ID when picking up race packets. It’s usually cold, so dress in layers.

Well organized, flat course, reasonably scenic if you like Air Force Bases. Southern portion runs by a small lake, nice woods, and some horses, the rest is Air Base. Course is all paved roads with very light traffic. Support/aid stations/post race food were all decent. We had rain and chilly…perfect running weather. Gotta take some time to see the museum.

This was the 25 anniversary Museum of Flight race. It was a well supported and ran event, at the museum attached to Robins Air Force Base. Access to the museum was thru a gate entrance without security, so access was simple. This was a Covid compliant event so that limited interaction with the venue and people – in and out of the museum hangar at packet pick up, no expo. Start was staggered with 2 people taking off every few seconds.
The water stops were well spaced, about every 3 miles, with gatorade, water, bananas and oranges, and goos at some.
The marathon is a double loop course around the runways. The scenery was interesting enough to me, always something to look at on a military base. My watch had elevation gain at 410 ft without a hill, just inclines.
Winter weather can vary, this year it was 43 degrees and wet but the rain that was forecast never really showed up, just an occasional drizzle.
Nice long sleeve shirt that was non race specific (there was a marathon, half, and 5k) and a neat medal. Pizza at the end for runners.
There were 103 marathon finishers so it is a smaller race, after 25 years they sure seem to have it down. I enjoyed myself, I was very glad the museum foundation put it on.
