Well organized and small race. Liked that it started on a NASCAR track for the first mile. Kinda fun. How many times do you get to do that. Course is flat and in some places pretty. Need more portapotties on the course. Had to stop in a coffee house but the owner was nice. Great bling and loved the Monster theme stocking hat too.

I was the 5:30 pacer for this event. Easy packet pickup. Great medal, but shirt was cotton and not compelling. Tons of easy parking. 1st mile is on the NASCAR track. The big, banked turns aren’t much fun to navigate. After passing through town, most of the race is rural. There’s an out and back towards the bay, but there’s really not much of a view. Although there were plenty of aid stations, most of the later ones were out of Gatorade. I don’t remember any nutrition being offered on the course, but we were given 2 Hammer gels in our bag from the packet pickup. The only hill in the course was a highway overpass in the final mileof the race. Beer and pizza were both given to runners at the finish. I had a first timer in my group, but most of the runners I met (and myself) were also running Atlantic City the next day. Photos were not free or searchable and were only at the start and finish. Overall, this was a small and logistically easy race. However, if I decide to go back to DE I’ll probably try another race.

Good call pacing this one Dale, to keep yourself honest on the first day of a back-to-back. I've wondered how negotiating the banked turns on the track would feel at Monster Mash, and sure enough it sounds like a challenge. At the same time, the fact it shares a weekend with Atlantic City is enticing to us West Coast travelers. Congrats to you and your legs on another back-to-back, and look forward to seeing you at JFK! This was a small race of about 300 half marathoners, plus some marathoners. The course starts with 1 lap around the Dover International Speedway, then the remainder is through the countryside of Dover. There is only 1 incline in the last half mile, over a bridge. The expo is super tiny. Great communications. Ran out of water at the last few stops. This was my 3rd fastest half marathon, so I would say this is a super fast course.

The Monster Mash is a great locally run event that shows off Dover. The course is almost entirely flat, and starts with a loop around the famous Dover Speedway. Participants gather together in front of the Miles the Monster statue for the national anthem and then are walked down to the track to line up for the start. After the loop around the track, we head out into Dover, passing historic and government buildings, by a college campus, and out into farm/field areas. There are ample water stops and great police presence on the course. The half and full marathon are together until around mile six and then they join back together around the half’s mile 12. Roads are not closed to traffic. The course takes you back to the raceway at the end and you finish in front of the Miles the Monster statue. Parking and packet pickup at the speedway is extremely easy, and there are lots of hotels very close by. The medal is amazing. I would recommend this race to new runners, to those who need Delaware for a state, and for race car enthusiasts.

The 2016 edition of the Monster Mash Marathon was cool, wet, but fast. The forecast was for early morning rain showers to stop about the time of the race start, and they did taper off a bit, but didn’t completely stop until about 4. 5 hours into the race. The cool temperatures made for good racing conditions though, and the highlight of the marathon was the first mile on the Dover International Speedway. There were plenty of aid stations (almost to the point of overkill), and medics were visible patrolling the race throughout. The bling was excellent, and there was plenty of free pizza and beer after the race. Most runners reported that they had a lot of fun despite the damp weather.
