The best part of running in Moab (and on this course) is by far and away the scenery. You can take photos but the photos do not in anyway shape or form do the landscape you see justice.

This course, this race is not a race for first time trail runners in my opinion. The course runs across increasing elevation, with a total of about 5000+ gain and about 2500 – 3000 ft of gain in the first half. There is a 4 hour cut-off/deadline for 18.5 miles which will be difficult to meet if you have never trained/ran at altitude, run across technical terrain, or are just new to trail running in the desert/mountains. The course has a total time limit of 10 hours for completion.

Again, It is a beautiful course. It is extremely challenging terrain, with a great deal of elevation gain. Unless you have trained on slick rock, technical course terrain, practiced making largish elevation gains I would recommend perhaps working towards this race and finding another as your first.
