Back before there were Gu Gels and Dri-Fit underwear, Waco Firefighter C.W. Whorton ran marathons. Then one he got the idea to host a marathon in Waco. Who knew where it would lead?? Wharton finally got the ball rolling in 2004 along with fellow firefighters Wade Durbin and Joe Singer … MORE

This is a great race with something for everyone. And it’s for a great cause! They have distances from one mile fun run to 50k ultra. I ran the 10k in 2015 and 2016, this year I ran the half marathon which tours Baylor, along the river, and through the zoo (my favorite). First half is flat, the second half not so much. The goodies were awesome, it’s definitely worth it to run the 5k the day before for the Phoenix challenge. There are other fun challenges for a little extra bling as well. And the fajitas after the race were delicious! I will definitely be back next year, either for the marathon, or maybe the ultra.

This is a tough, but great race!! It starts out pretty easy going through Baylor and the stadium and then when the half marathoners split off the hills get intense! The best part is running through the Cameron Park zoo! There are 5 parts to this race: run through Baylor, run around stadium, Cameron Park zoo, Cameron Park and then big finish on the bridge! Of course you have to try the Jacobs Ladder challenge at mile 10!

This race is well-executed, fun, and definitely worth doing over and over again (I’ve ran some portion of this race for the past 7 years!). The 5k particularly starts and ends at the same place, there’s music and activities prior to get you warmed up, it takes you down the river path so the scenery is great and the halfway mark water station is always filled with people cheering like crazy.

I have done both the full & half in Waco. There are some challenging hills on both routes. Half goes through the zoo. Full runs by the lake. Both routes are beautiful. and then there is the Jacob Ladder challenge. NOT REQUIRED, but worth the extra medal to go up it. It really helps the legs by using different muscles. You also have the jalapeño challenge. Very fun course!

ok…no joke it’s a tough course! the hills are legit BUT the course is so fun and the people so nice and the scenery so beautiful that it is totally worth the trashed quads! the half goes through the zoo LOVE ! and of course DO Jacobs Ladder <= you will not regret it! in fact you may feel better for the last few miles. Stay at the Hilton I didn't have the best experience there BUT… I loved walking down from my room at 7:15 to the start line and starting at 7:30!!! #allthesleep The volunteers are amazing. I am sure i was close to the end and there were always happy faces there to cheer me and offer water/aide. I absolutely ADORE this race director! GREAT CAUSE. GREAT RACE. GREAT SWAG. and of course THAT MEDAL!!!!!!!! My favorite road race

This run; which turned into a walk, was the most challenging event I ever put my shoes against. The beginning wasn’t so scary as I thought it would be, but neither was my husbands bone marrow transplant. As the journey progressed the wind picked up as every inch of my body struggled to move forward. The days were long in the hospital after transplant and every step of this journey parallels with my husbands walk through the last 7 months. My lungs were raw and in pain and I remember just a few weeks ago when Philips lungs were blocked. Halfway through the journey I was completely done. My legs didn’t want to work, I had to force the motion to move forward. My stomach was in pain and nausea piled with defeat had me wanting to give up. I didn’t prepare for this event and definitely not carrying the appropriate weight. How could I just give up on my husbands walk.. He wasn’t prepared either? I pushed up those hills, my breathing was weak, prayed to God several times for mercy. How he must have felt during those times of struggles consumes my inner soul as I ignored my flesh. I rounded the corner for the last hill up to the bridge when ocean waves of emotion struck my throat. I am almost done, my husband is almost done, we got this journey and we are pushing through the wind of defeat and claiming victory together!

Wow, CONGRATS Jennifer... you and Philip are clearly fighters! Awesome narrative, so powerful to relive the experience of someone personally affected by the Marrow Donor Program. Every runner can empathize with the feeling of being under-prepared for a race, but few can relate to the battle Philip fought. Thanks so much for sharing your struggles & victories, and big hugs to you both for bringing the miracle to life!

This race is super convenient to get to–park and walk up to the start line. The course is beautiful as it runs through Baylor University, Austin Avenue, around Lake Waco, through Cameron Park and finishes in the Suspension Bridge. At the finish line, there is a huge party waiting with brisket tacos and adult beverages. Always unique, hand made medals and awards! PLUS, this race is about saving lives and BE THE MATCH. Win-Win

I’ve always loved the Miracle Match Marathon races. I recommended it to several new runners as their first 5k because it is well run and you always got a great finisher medal, even for the 5k. But this year the didn’t give out medals for the 5k so that was a disappointment.

This is my hometown event so I may be somewhat biased but having run events in multiple states and of multiple sizes I can honestly say this event is absolutely first class. This is not a huge race so there isn’t much of an expo but the people involved are enthusiastic and great to visit with while doing packet pickup. They definitely help get you in the mood for a run. I’ve run this event for the past couple of years and the weather has been different each time which also typical for this area. The one constant for this race is the hills and they are serious. Please make sure you’re doing some hill training before tackling this event, they are not easy. This year the new Baylor Stadium was added to the course which actually took out some of the hills and is a beautiful addition to the area and the course. This is a fabulous event that is well supported and professionally run, I highly recommend this to anyone wanting a challenging, fun run.

First half or so was flat, but after the run through the zoo, things go hilly and very tough BUT what a beautiful course! I plan to run again next year and will be more prepared, and I may be brave enough to try the optional climb up Jacob’s Ladder.

The run through the zoo was unique and such a great experience. When do you run 13.1 miles and get to see a tiger, lion. giraffe, sloth and much more?!

Loved that the race started right outside the hotel when packet pick up was. We were able to stay in the lobby until the start.

Post race food and beverages(some adult!), was amazing.

Have been promoting the race to friends and I think a big group of us will be making the 1+ hour journey from Round Rock to have some fun again!

This is a beautiful race with plenty of hills for anyone who thrives on pain. I hill trained in anticipation but injured my knee around mile 15. I finished but it wasn’t pretty the last 11 miles. Race was well marked, volunteers lively and encouraging, plenty of fuel stops along the way, easy registration process. I will run again…and hopefully finish stronger next time.
