Back before there were Gu Gels and Dri-Fit underwear, Waco Firefighter C.W. Whorton ran marathons. Then one he got the idea to host a marathon in Waco. Who knew where it would lead?? Wharton finally got the ball rolling in 2004 along with fellow firefighters Wade Durbin and Joe Singer … MORE

The first half of the marathon course is along the river & through Baylor’s campus, but starting at about the halfway point there is nothing but rolling hills & more rolling hills. I was under prepared & I knew it so my miles were slower than my previous 2 marathons & the hills (most of which I knew were coming) really slowed me down. Great challenging course, nice scenery, good swag & I would run again for sure.

So glad I did this race!! The crowds and volunteers were awesome, the course was beautiful (and I loved spotting houses from Fixer Upper along the way), and I loved the finisher food (brisket fajitas, yes please!!!). The course was hilly (I actually really like hills, though), so probably not the best race for PR-ing. For just a good, fun view of the city, you can’t beat it 🙂

This was the awesome! It had great energy for it being my first ever run!! I can’t wait to run next year! I have big goals now! The race path was clean and blocked off nicely. They made it easy to tell where the paths split for the 10, half and full. I also liked the little motivation markers on the way

Nice to be able to wait in the in convention center before the race in case of less than ideal weather. The race swag always rocks – it’s always unique, useful, and fun. This is my FAVORITE race!

This race has hills. I mean, real hills. Not steady inclines but a hill you may need to walk up. The first half is relatively flat but the latter half is mostly uphill with some decent downhills too. If you don’t kill yourself on the first half, the second half is manageable. It’s a small race so don’t expect many spectators other than at water stops which are spaced perfectly. Since it’s small, it’s a much more personal feel, you’re almost guaranteed an age group placement, and it’s logistically easy.

I’ve run Miracle Match 9 times, still one of my faves. The directors know how to put on a great race – Nice tour of Waco and Baylor, great swag and finish line goodies (beer, fajitas and more). Sure it’s a little hilly after 11 miles, but this race tends to get me better times. It’s good to use different muscle groups! And January is usually the best time of year for weather.

This 10k takes you running around Baylor stadium, bringing you back to the riverside and finally ending your race running the famous Waco bridge.

This is a great race with something for everyone. And it’s for a great cause! They have distances from one mile fun run to 50k ultra. I ran the 10k in 2015 and 2016, this year I ran the half marathon which tours Baylor, along the river, and through the zoo (my favorite). First half is flat, the second half not so much. The goodies were awesome, it’s definitely worth it to run the 5k the day before for the Phoenix challenge. There are other fun challenges for a little extra bling as well. And the fajitas after the race were delicious! I will definitely be back next year, either for the marathon, or maybe the ultra.

This is a tough, but great race!! It starts out pretty easy going through Baylor and the stadium and then when the half marathoners split off the hills get intense! The best part is running through the Cameron Park zoo! There are 5 parts to this race: run through Baylor, run around stadium, Cameron Park zoo, Cameron Park and then big finish on the bridge! Of course you have to try the Jacobs Ladder challenge at mile 10!

This race is well-executed, fun, and definitely worth doing over and over again (I’ve ran some portion of this race for the past 7 years!). The 5k particularly starts and ends at the same place, there’s music and activities prior to get you warmed up, it takes you down the river path so the scenery is great and the halfway mark water station is always filled with people cheering like crazy.

I have done both the full & half in Waco. There are some challenging hills on both routes. Half goes through the zoo. Full runs by the lake. Both routes are beautiful. and then there is the Jacob Ladder challenge. NOT REQUIRED, but worth the extra medal to go up it. It really helps the legs by using different muscles. You also have the jalapeño challenge. Very fun course!
