We Run for the Cause
Joseph Scott Middlemiss was born on May 31, 2007 with a rare congenital heart disease known as cardiomyopathy. Moments after birth, a chest x-ray revealed an enlarged heart that caused a lifetime of medical struggles. At the same time, that BIG HEART symbolized all the love Joe was to emulate in his short lifetime.
Over the years, Joseph visited the hospital as an inpatient numerous times, underwent multiple procedures, surgeries, and tests,yet he faced it all with bravery far beyond his age. His love of life was evident to everyone he met, and he continued to defy the odds stacked against him.
Joseph was a beautiful little boy who loved music, especially The Beatles. He was kind and loved to make people laugh. Joe exemplified pure LOVE each and every day. Despite his daily medical and physical obstacles, Joseph let his BIG HEART shine through, greeting everyone he met with his beautiful smile, a kind word or song or a healing hug. On September 23, 2013, Joseph earned his angel wings. Although Joe’s time here on earth was way too short, he left behind a beautiful legacy of compassion, empathy and kindness. Joseph’s life,legacy, spirit, smile and love will never be forgotten. Joe was wise beyond his years, setting the framework for amazing things to be done in his name.
