From race website: “We also regret to advise that after evaluating the future viability of the event, the IRONMAN 70.3 SUPERFROG triathlon will not return in 2021. IRONMAN officials will continue to evaluate the potential for the event to return at some point in the future.”

Be Part of Triathlon’s Rich History
Many triathletes have ventured onto the sandy shores of Imperial Beach. The area has hosted the longest-running half-distance triathlon in the world dating back to the 1970s. IRONMAN 70.3 SUPERFROG is based on Navy SEAL training so multiple loops and sand will be part of your experience. Athletes who want to experience a triathlon filled with sun, sand and history will want to explore IRONMAN 70.3 SUPERFROG.
Swim
The 1.2 mile swim is a two loop swim with a 100 meter run in between loops. The course is rectangular shaped, and athletes will keep buoys on their right and lifeguards on their left. There are two red turn buoys and athletes can use lifeguards to spot these as surf can kick up and buoys can be hard to see. After the first loop, athletes will exit the surf onto the beach and run back to swim start for the second loop.Once exiting from the second loop, athletes will head up to the Elm Ave beach access and turn right onto Ocean Lane following volunteers guiding them to the north end of transition.
The swim will feature a self-seeded time trial start.
Bike
The bike course is a four loop, counter-clockwise course that is at sea level. Athletes will leave transition heading north on Seacoast up thru the northern neighborhoods of the City of Imperial Beach to the Silver Strand Hwy 75. On Silver Strand Hwy 75 is where all four loops of the bike course will take place with the north turnaround at Tarawa and south turnaround at Rainbow. After the four loops, cyclists will come back to transition going through the same northern City of Imperial Beach streets they headed out on.
Run
Due to construction some changes have been made that have allowed for trail running! The four-loop, 13.1-mile run reflects the beach running that SEALs do in training. Exiting south of transition you’ll head onto the beach at the Elkwood beach access. Your beach run will head south to Beach Ave where you’ll turn around on the sand and head north. From there we will navigate you back and forth between beach & road at various spots to the Carnation beach access getting on to the street side of Carnation. Follow to Silver Strand Blvd turning left towards the entrance of Camp Surf YMCA. Turn left and then a quick right to access the trail on the left. Stay on the trail to the turnaround where an aid station will be located. Follow back to the Camp Surf YMCA entrance, right onto Silver Strand Blvd, right onto Carnation to the beach access. Hop back onto the sand heading south to the Beach Ave beach turn around, again navigating you back and forth between beach and road, which you will repeat three more times. After your fourth time, you’ll turn off the beach onto Elm Ave, make a quick right onto Ocean lane and follow the same route you did for the swim run back to transition only you’ll have one last “Hoo-Yah” as you go through the tree lined Fallen Hero banners that will start the energetic finish line that awaits athletes as they round the iconic “Imperial Beach” sculptor to finish on the beginning of the pier.
Please note that there will be NO pre-running, viewing, etc. prior to race day on YMCA Camp Surf. It is private property that hosts youth camps. Even on race day spectators will NOT be allowed to view. Failure to respect this could result in losing the privilege to race or in the case of spectators, a DQ for their athlete.
