I was slightly nervous due to the 3 years between races at IM 70.3 but in the end I didn’t need to worry. I would have PB’d but due to calf injury in April which restricted me to just 8 weeks running training & thus faded from 8miles on the run.
Perhaps toughest swim ever (I’ve done beach entry ocean before) but 39min swim was good. Warm but choppy the only criticism was the delay on entry (pros were out before 38-40min wave entered) but no biggy.
Bike was just the best IMO if you like a course technical. Not ideal for TT bikes – I rode Specialized Tarmac with no T- Bars (as I left the bolts at home) and enjoyed it. Double loop course with 1800ft climbing but climbing wasn’t a problem. However quite a few sections where you had to handle your bike – not just a head down race some folks won’t like that. I rode in Z2-Z3 HR to protect the legs for the run and did 2:51. Only downside was course was 53 miles not 56 but otherwise pretty fast.
Run was double loop with some hills (even though it’s marked flat 🙂 ) but no drama. Great support by the locals and despite rub/walk from 9 miles enjoyed the support and refreshment tables which were a plenty.
Overal I’d recommend this event the Dutch know how to party & host a 70.3
Well run event from start to finish
