This is a community event for the city of Lawrence which is about a 15 minute drive for me. I’m not going to lie the website was kind of sketchy and there was zero pre race communication so I did not set high expectations but since it was only a 15 minute drive I didn’t really care if it was terrible but I was pleasantly surprised with how nice this race was. This was again a race with between 100-150 participants. I wasn’t really sure how parking etc would be so just drove to the GPS address and it was easy. Bib pick up is before the race and included a solid tech shirt along with bib. There were also some water and granola bars pre race. The race went along the greenway in Lawrence. Lawrence is a lower socioeconomic town and some areas are not as nice but I was surprised by the amount of beautiful green areas and it was an interesting course with both tree lined scenery and more urban scenery. It was well marked and had a water stop in the middle. There was good course support with police at all street crossing. I do wish there were mile markers and a map of the course. I didn’t realize it was point to point. This made for a more interested run but also meant you had to take a shuttle back. My finish time was solid though not as fast as Thursday. The finish area was nice and there was very good post race snacks with granola bars, bananas, bagels and to my surprise one of favorite snacks hummus and pita chips. The shuttle back was well organized and efficient. I just wish I knew about it as I ended up coming home about 20 minutes later than I expected. Luckily I didn’t have plans so it didn’t really matter. Overall though this was a very solid race. With mile markers and better pre race communication I could be convinced to round up to 5 sneakers. I would do it again if I were in town the weekend of the race.
