The race is run mostly on the Battlefied at Gettysburg. I have run other races there and have thoroughly enjoyed this somber place. This race was a cluster right after the starting gun.
We followed the lead Bike out of the parking lot and on to a paved trail. When we had run about a half mile we turned on to a road in the battlefield and there was a water stop there. I thought it was odd to have water so soon but we kept following the bike. Approximately a quarter mile later we passed Mile marker 3! The murmers in the pack started immediately and we knew we had followed the bike in the wrong direction.
I am trying to do 100 Half Marathons so I thought they would fix it at the end, I calculated how much extra I would have to run if they did not fix it and kept on running.
At the 10K mark the people at the water stop assured us the race director was aware and was going to fix the distance. All they had to do was block off the finish gate and make us run a .9 mile turn around…not difficult.
When I aproached the finish I saw they ahd not add ed any distance so I turned and ran the distance myself before crossing the finish.
I would estimate only about 10 percent of the finishers did the whole distance.
When I git the email results they renamed the race to the Battlefield 11.3 mile run. I sent an email to the race director offering to bring in my GPS proff I ran in excess of the distance so I could get my results certified and count this race toward my 100. I got no response from the director.
I will not do this race again.
