The Dunedin Marathon is open to all runners 18 years of age and over on Race Day. The start time is 8.00am – 1km south of the Royal Albatross Colony, Taiaroa Heads on the Otago Peninsula.
The Marathon course is point to point, the first 32km is mainly flat. The remaining 10km has slight undulations with a sharp brief rise at 39km (Roseneath). Full Marathon runners will share the course with Half Marathon competitors from the 29km mark (Kitchener Street).
The Marathon starts at Harington Point at 8.00am and follows Harington Point Rd and Portobello Rd all the way to the city’s foreshore. The route crosses the Andersons Bay inlet then onto Portsmouth Drive, turns right into Kitchener St, proceeds into Birch St, right into Ward St, then right into Fryatt St, left into Wickliffe St, over the Ward St overbridge, turn right onto Anzac Ave then onto the Port Chalmers highway (SH88). Proceed onto the Cycleway/Walkway and on reaching Port Chalmers turn right over the railway crossing, then right into Albertson Avenu, into Watson Park and the Finish.
The Half Marathon start will be in Logan Park Drive down from the Tennis Courts at 9.30am. The course will take in the Botanical Gardens, University of Otago, Dunedin Railway Station and Chinese Gardens, and will join the Full Marathon course at the Harbour Basin, pass the Forsyth Barr Stadium, onto the Walkway / Cycleway, then SH 88 to Port Chalmers and the Finish at Watson Park.
