Team ASAP invites you to come suffer the Lake Area’s only ultra marathon. Nestled in the heart of Southwest Louisiana, Sam Houston Jones State Park consists mostly of single track, root rich dirt trails. This race is perfect for the newbies and it is sure to challenge even the most seasoned runners.
The Danimal is scheduled to take place Saturday; the Dirty Double will take place Sunday. We will begin with a mandatory pre-race meeting at the main pavilion at 7:45 and the race will begin promptly at 8:00 a.m. For those wanting a more “relaxed” afternoon, we do have a 25K option and we even have a 1 loop option consisting of 7.78 miles for the laziest of you out there.
The trails will be open to the public so beware of cyclists, other runners, and bird watchers. Earphones are allowed, just be courteous to those who are faster than you and get out of their way. We will have 2 unmanned aid stations consisting of water and electrolyte drink and 2 fully equipped aid stations. Food will be served at the main pavilion/start,finish line after the race, so stick around and enjoy the company. Families, your cheer squads, etc. are encouraged to hang out and grub as well. Awards will be given as runners finish. The race will take place rain or shine (unless there’s lightning). There is a hard 8 hour cut off time for all distances of BOTH races. Not 8:01:01. EIGHT HOURS FLAT!!
Due to the State removing some of the original park trails for the “Long Leaf Pine” project, we have had to revamp the Danimal course. One loop is now approximately 7.78 miles in length but the 50k will still be four loops and the 25k will be 2 loops. The race is solely on trails. The only time a runner should be off the trails is to cross from the Orange trail to the Purple trail. If you find yourself running on the road, YOU ARE LOST. We will have ample signage for all to see.
One loop is as follows: Starting from the pavilion, head east through the park grounds to the Orange trail. Runners will follow the Orange trail for approximately 1.7 miles then turning “right” onto the “Upper Orange” spur. Follow the trail north where runners will cross the entrance road to enter the “Purple” trail. Continue on the Purple trail until it intersects with the “Blue” trail. Runners will take THE UPPER BLUE trail. Follow the blue trail for approximately 3.5 miles then veer right onto the “Yellow” trail. Runners will continue down the yellow trail until they reach the “Green” trail. Turning right onto the “green” trail will lead runners back to the cabins by the boat launch where the runners will cross the boat launch and run down by the river back to the pavilion. That is 1 loop.
As challenging as our 50K is, we have been told that it’s too easy. Therefore, we would like to encourage those seeking a new challenge to sign up for The Dirty Double. The Dirty Double will be held on Sunday and it is the exact distance that you will run on Saturday. For example, if you run the The Danimal 25k on Saturday, you run The Dirty Double 25k on Sunday. Believe us, it is more difficult than it sounds!
