With COVID shutting down most races it was nice to have a race go forward and I give the RDs a lot of credit for pulling off a pretty great race. There were a few small issues, as it was the first year for the race, but overall I thought it was well done. There were some confusing parts of the course when you go through the fairgrounds at the start, halfway point, and finish with the course being a bit confusing and not directed well. I missed a turn around the halfway point and ran a tenth extra before a course monitor realized I missed the turn.

The shirt and medal were great!

The course was tough for me. It was quite hilly which I’m not used to and the wind was quite strong at times making a difficult headwind. Getting to run down to the lake was a nice scenic portion and the greenway was also nice.

I don’t plan on running it again since it was my Georgia race for 50 states, but I would definitely recommend it as a nice small race in a nice town if you’re looking for a challenging course.

Glad you got a chance to run for real, Jason! And that you only logged an extra 0.1 miles before the course monitor caught you... I think Route 66 in Oklahoma is the only marathon where you get rewarded for taking a detour 😁. Like you I'm a 50 Stater, and this year has definitely changed my thinking about my strategy, so it's great to see fellow travelers continuing to conquer new states. Congrats on Georgia, run well in Texas and Louisiana, and hope you'll share some of your other racing adventures here on RaceRaves! LESS
