The course is in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park so it’s incredibly beautiful. The hills are unbelievable to say the least. I made at least a 3000′ elevation gain before my watch died, so it is more than that. The course also changes direction every year and this year was the “hard way”. After you finish 6 laps of the 5-mile course, you finish with a hard 1-mile hill where you’ll collect candy and bring back to the finish to claim your finisher shirt.
This is one of the hardest courses I’ve run. The crowd is small. Probably less than 100 runners. They feed you well and you’ll feel like family. The people are just super. Since it’s 100% trail, there is no crowd support, but volunteers will run the course in the opposite direction to cheer you on and clang their cowbells.
This is a perfect race if you crave a challenge. It is not for the faint of heart. If you want an easy race, this is not it.
The swag is minimal but hard-earned. I give it 5-stars and 2 thumbs up! ??
This will eat you alive!
