Kandel, close to Strasbourg/ France and Karlsruhe/ Germany, has been hosting the marathon race for 42 years. The half marathon was 27 Euro, and one could additionally order the medal for 5 Euro extra, the race shirt another 13 Euros. Start is near Bienwaldstadium and Bienwaldhalle in Kandel. Bib pick-up is before the race, showers and bag drop off are provided. Half and full marathon start at the same time with suggested lining up depending on your times. The course starts with running through two villages and makes a bend into the forrest. Surface is asphalt all the time. After km 14.5 (about mile 7.5) the half splits from the full marathon. The finish line is in the soccer stadium (Bienwaldstadium), hot and cold drinks, alcoholfree beer and massages. The parking filled up quickly. I’ d recommend to arrive there about 90 minutes prior to the start or using the train/ the train station is only 500m away.
I was visiting the area and ran the race as recovery race. However with the mild -cool temperatures in March and the very flat course, it definitely is a race where one could try for a PR.
