Join us to be a part of Santa Clarita’s premier night run/walk at the annual Be The Light 5K in Valencia, California. Each year the greater Southern California community of runners and walkers come together to support youths in recovery through the A Light of Hope charity, to show them that we are here for them and together we can make a positive impact on their lives.
Bring your best night outfit, decked out with lights and colorful glow bands to shine your brightest in this awesome night run/walk. Register today, bring the family, friends, and make a team to bring a light of hope!
The 5K course is a loop that encompasses both sides of the paved and fenced San Francisquito Creek Trail between Copper Hill Drive and Decoro Drive. The Be The Light 5K run/walk starts where the trail adjoins West Creek Park in Valencia. Runners and walkers will head south on the trail, cross the bridge at Decoro Drive, then head north on the trail, crossing back over at Copperhill Drive. Participants will continue south, ending with a dramatic nighttime finish at West Creek Park.
Virtually the entire course is on the exquisitely paved and fenced San Francisquito Creek Trail. There are no traffic crossings to contend with. Around the half-mile mark you’ll face a steep but very short (~30 yards long) grade to get from the trail to the bridge at Decoro Drive, otherwise, no hill climbing. With the exception of a slight, gradual upward grade on the northbound leg, the course is mainly flat. You’ll enjoy a slight downhill path for the final mile!
The 10K course will start the course in reverse and do a U-turn half way through and loop back to the finish line.
Race perks include:
– Official event shirt
– Finisher medal
– Finisher certificate
– FREE race photos
– Chip timed results
– Volunteer support
– Course aid-station
– Finish line water & food
– Event insurance
– Award for top 3 finishers
– Support A Light of Hope
– Awesome experience!
10% of entry proceeds are donated to A Light of Hope to benefit youth in recovery.

This is a well organized night time event where you are encouraged to wear lights, light up necklaces, wristbands, flashing lights and/or costumes! It’s tons of fun to see what people show up in, and all on pavement. Kilometer 4 is a long, steady uphill but the last .75 of a kilometer is thankfully down hill. This is also a fundraiser so plenty of people join in just to walk. A good first race for anyone new to running. The best swag!

My first running race, first 5k and first 0k! Was super fun, the track was very nicely set up and paved. I would say great for beginners or if you want to set a PR. And for a good cause. What’s not to love.

The “Be The Light 5k/10k” is a unique night time race benefiting a local charity that helps kids and teenagers battling addiction. The easy 3 mile course (or 6.2 if you do the 10k) is flat, and it’s so cool to see the participants running in the dark wearing lit up accessories.

Calling all 10k runners! If you tried this race in the past and decided 1) it was too hot or 2) you were sad you didn’t get to run after sunset – That’s All Changed! Please come back!
I noticed this year there were only about 1/2 the # of 10k participants as in the past and I guess it might have been due to those problems, but this year we all started right around sunset 7pm or 7:05 and the swag of a light up hat or light up wrist band made the whole thing just as festive as could be!
I had a hip injury and haven’t done 10k (in a row) since July4th, so I had the modest goal of finishing, even if it meant a walk/run for me. I did alright, in that I finished. I couldn’t help but notice my time didn’t really merit being soooo far back in the pack, and that’s when I noticed there were so fewer 10k participants. I think if we could get the 10k-ers back up to where it used to be it would be more fun for everyone because we’d continue to see lights all along the way. Either that, or maybe the 10k should start at 6:30 and the 5k at 76er ? I dunno, but anyway – –
The course, is easy. If you’ve never done a race before, 5 or 10, Start Here. There’s quite a bit of downhill. Lots of aid stations, and because it’s a loop, (repeated for the 10k) you’re never more than 2.5k from the finish. Plus the whole course is paved. If you run before sunset the scenery is pretty, if you run after sunset it’s very beautiful to see the people running with lights.
The course is dog friendly and baby stroller friendly.
Plus you are supporting a great cause. Be The Light!

This is the 4th straight year I’ve run this race and I will most likely be back for a 5th! It’s small and well organized and I make new friends every year. The volunteers are kind and helpful, race crew seem calm and happy under what I’m sure is organized chaos. The course is simple but perfect (you can’t get lost, it’s clean/clear/safe, and plenty wide to pass). Everything about the swag is perfect! So creative and honestly it’s nice to have something other than another race shirt to add to the pile. They’ve had high quality awards each year I’ve done it which is greatly appreciated as someone who comes to compete. But even if you’re a walker or not interested in your finish time, I would highly recommend getting a group of friends together to do it for fun.
Great 2 loops

This is the 3rd time I’ve done the 10k and I will be back again next year. They changed the 10k to be at sunset this year which was nice to avoid the heat. This also changed the direction of the start which was so so nice (avoids a steep uphill start). This race has such a nice small, local feel and everyone on the crew and volunteers are super friendly. It is a very family friendly race which is great in all ways except it can be hard to pass walkers/kids on the second loop of the 10k but it’s doable if you’re careful. Word of caution…if you plan on running fast please bring a light! I had one and was so glad; it would’ve been scary with footing because it is very very dark on the second loop. All in all I would highly recommend!
There was no light :(

The Friday before the actual race I received an email that the race time would be changed (earlier.) Due to this most of the 10k participants ran in the full glory of 92 degree heat, full bore sun – I was actually sick after this race and was stunned to see my time, I almost collapsed from heat exhaustion. . . I don’t mind a challenge, I’ve been doing Space Rock and Valencia Trail, but I felt this was a sneaky kind of bait and switch. The photos from the year before showed runners in after sunset conditions running with glowsticks etc. Apparently this was only for the 5k runners. If you sign up for 10k Beware!

This crew puts on very good races. They are organized and are very racer friendly. The location for this race was very nice, with a great base camp in a park with things for kids to do. The course was a ‘simple’ loop, but the views were nice for the 10k, and it was paved the whole way. It actually didn’t even cross any roads, which was nice. And they have people at all the turns, so you can’t get lost. The 10k ended before sunset (for me), so the lights weren’t visible yet, but I could see how cool it would be to run through when it’s dark. If you want a run twilight race, this would be a great one to start with. I’ll be back next year for sure.

I’ve run the 5k for the last 3 years and this year decided on the 10k for whatever reason. Although the 10k was perfectly nice, the fact that it started earlier meant it was still bright out and it was HOT. I think what I love most about the 5k is that it starts once the sun goes down and its just a different vibe with all the glowing paraphernalia. At the end of the day its a great crew running the show, the paseos are very nice to run on, its for a great cause and the shirt and medal never disappoint. I’ll be back for years to come, but will stick to the 5k.

Family environment race. Some runners, a lot of walkers and families with strollers. My 9yr old loved this race. We need to bring more light bling bling to do the race next year. The weather was perfect and you can see the stars clearly in the sky. My son and I do a lot of 5k races and this one is our favorite and more so what the race is supporting! The medal is my favorite out of all the medals I have!

This is the second race I’ve done on this trail but it was my first go at a night race. The atmosphere was a lot of fun, loved the whole glow stick vibe. The shirt and medal were great (medal glows in the dark) and winner trophies were top notch. The only cons were with the way awards were handled. Awards were given 1.5 hours after the winners finished (it was nighttime, mind you) and it was cold and windy and I got sick. Even then they got the placements wrong and aren’t sure they can get them redistributed. Overall it has potential but needs some help with production.
