The first half was as expected: single track and fire road, lots of up, cheering people at aid stations.

The second half was technical and rocky or sandy trail. The final 14k was in the dark for me and a watch that could display a gps track would have helped. The descent down oriflame was steep and rocky and i am grateful i had hiking piles. And the aid stations were fabulous, beyond belief.

The sunset and people on the course made this run great. Not expecting the rocky trail was a lesson i won’t forget. I was happy i looked at the course the day before. I was surprised that the cold at the start wasn’t terrible and that even after 12 hrs of running the cold at 7pm was fine.

I might do it again after practice running on sand and rocky descents. I would also bring a pacer for the second half.
