I flew in from MD to check off UT in my 50 state quest. Morgan is tiny, maybe 12,000 people. Love small town races! For a tiny town and small field this was very well organized. Everyone was SUPER nice. The course was well marked and had plenty of hydration. This is something I have found lacking in other courses – pleasantly surprised with such a small race. The views – stunning! I took so many pictures and even with that got a PR! I will say they ran into some issues the night before with road construction and had to re-route their course. My watched showed the course a hair short… Same with the person I was chatting with on the course. So, not sure if my PR is super accurate but I’ll take it! They had plenty of race food and drink and even had a mobile body works company there to do massage and compression. This was the BEST! My IT was on fire from the rolling hills which I’m not used to.
Stayed at the recommended hotel – Cobblestone. Clean, friendly and super convenient to the race start. You can walk over. I’d highly recommend this race.

The two loops was fun for family to see me half way through. Cool Pint Glasses for the finishers was an extra bonus! The course is surrounded by mountains on every side; absolutely beautiful. Mostly flat, some rollers made it a real marathon lol!

In a small town in the middle of some of the most beautiful land and amidst some of the most beautiful people, someone stole our finisher medals — but the race stole my heart. From learning the local history of the race to learning there were no finisher medals, I couldn’t help but be amazed.

Let me say this then move on. What benefit does someone gain from stealing race medals? They must have thought they were getting boxes and boxes of coins. Sad to say that we were victimized, but we are all VICTORS. The Race Director did the right thing in the handling of and communication of the situation while the runners were very understanding and gracious by not blaming the race.

“Gracious” is a great word to describe the people of this small town and race. From the employees of the first, brand new, hotel to the host of the race and the community in which it was ran. Even the animals seemed to be welcoming and excited that we were there. And apparently, the course itself was welcoming.

I normally despise loops, however, in this case, the two loops for the marathon was ever so gracious, giving me a second chance to capture the beauty of the canyons and communities in which the course ran through. There were times I thought I had gone off course because I didn’t recognize the area from the initial loop due to my eyes being fixed on the landscape then being taken in awe by yet another site during the second loop.

The course is not very difficult although it’s high above sea level. There are some climbs up that lead to longer runs down. Because the community is small, they only have a patrol vehicle at one point crossing into a busy intersection which climbs up then drops down allowing you to gain minutes on your time. But the problem is that the second loop has even more traffic and running down the hill the second loop pushes you off the road onto the small single track , thus slowing you down.

Considering this race was started by a local group of woman, was not put on for some years and then picked up by a race company, I don’t see it slowing down no time soon. In fact, the more it’s held,I believe the more people who will discover it, just as I did. I definitely want to return.

The beauty of this location grabs me. There are mountains, streams, and irrigation channels and did I say hills. The most friendly people I have been around at 6:00 am. The expo is at the county fairgrounds and mostly consists of picking up you shirt and bib. …. but did I say the people are friendly… met the race directors before the race and ate with a six time Boston runner. Had a great talk with others about which race to run in each state. So what I can tell you is this is a great race and I will try to come back. Really love the people there.

Less than 100 marathoners ran across BREATHTAKING country side. I saw more goats, cows, and horses that day than I had seen in a while. I enjoyed the marathon and the swag was worth it. The early start was a bit much in mountain time but helped combat the heat. I didn’t notice any elevation issues. Water stations were great with snacks as well. The only dislike is we were running along the country road so at times I wasn’t sure if a truck coming towards me saw me before it moved towards the center. I do recommend this course && It was SUPER cheap.

I really enjoyed this marathon. My favorite part was running through an area where several people had goats on leashes eating down the tall grass by the side of the road. I stopped and petted several. We also ran by other animals and I saw a mule deer (I think) up on a mountain. The course was good, not overly hilly or too flat either. The scenery was beautiful. They offered free pictures, but I’m slower and I think the photographer must have gotten off before I finished, because I only saw myself in one of the pictures and it was from the start. Other than than, everything went well. They offered massages and lots of food afterwards. I’d recommend this run for anyone looking to run in Utah.

Great job Aprille, and congrats on coloring state #32 blue on your map! Thanks for your thoughtful review, I'm a fellow 50 Stater still trying to choose from among the many Utah marathons, so your experience is especially helpful. Don't know your running plans for the rest of the year, but we'll be in Jackson Hole on Sept 1 and Kansas City on Oct 20, so hopefully our paths will cross soon! LESS

One of the best marathon experiences I have had. The field size was small (+- 100), the spectators few, and the course incredibly beautiful. A lot of the race it was me, the course and nature. I loved that. The course is an honest course, which is refreshing considering most races here in Utah are screaming downhill.

The pre-race meal was great, the logistics easy (starts and ends in the same place), the SWAG good (beanie, nice shirt and nice medal), it was chip-timed, the course support was great (they even had a roaming aid station on an ATV), and the volunteers were well-trained.

This race would be great for a 50-stater looking for their Utah race. It is the only time I will get to both BQ and come in 4th overall! I must admit I loved that. I can’t say enough about how nice it was to run this marathon. I will be back.

This all sounds awesome, Jose — the race, your review and your performance! Congrats on both your BQ and near-podium finish, that's one fine day at the races. I'm one of those 50 staters you referenced looking for my Utah race, and like you said most of the courses in your state are screaming downhills, so this one's particularly appealing. Love hearing about races like this, and hope you'll share more of your racing experiences here on the site. Keep running strong! LESS
