I recently participated in the Coast Guard Marathon Virtual Race, and I have to say, it was a surprisingly rewarding experience. Running it on my treadmill allowed me to control my environment and pace, but the race’s digital features made it feel just as engaging as an in-person event. The virtual race packet was well-organized, with a smooth registration process, access to a race-day app, and motivational content that kept me on track.
The race itself was timed well for those looking to push their limits, but also flexible for anyone looking to complete it at their own pace. I enjoyed the virtual race bib and medal, which added a fun sense of achievement. Plus, the themed race options, inspired by the Coast Guard, made it feel unique and gave me a connection to the cause, even though I was running from home.
If you enjoy a good challenge without the stress of race-day logistics, I highly recommend giving this virtual marathon a go. It’s a great way to experience the thrill of a marathon while staying in control of your surroundings.

The Napa Valley Marathon delivered a smooth and scenic race experience. Running south on the Silverado Trail was a highlight—the road was safely blocked off on both sides, allowing for easy adjustments to the camber. Every mile was clearly marked, and the aid stations, manned by upbeat volunteers, kept morale high. The start line was spacious with plenty of portable toilets nearby, and the bag drop/pickup process was seamless. With fewer than 2,000 runners, the course felt open and well-paced, supported by professional pacers. Although cheering was modest, key spots offered bursts of energy. The sunny, mild conditions meant you could run comfortably without clothing layers, and while wind gusts made brief appearances, they were never overwhelming. Scenic views of vineyards and mustard flowers, combined with a net downhill course featuring some undulating hills, made for a memorable run—plus, great swag from Kaiser Permanente was the cherry on top.
