Communication was pretty poor with little to no information on parking. The only thing they said was that there was no parking in City Park and they recommended being dropped off which wasn’t an option for me. For any future participants there are no dedicated lots you just drive around the surrounding neighborhoods until you can find somewhere to street park. The course was not that great mostly running past car dealerships and liquor stores on Colfax. Spectators were few and far between which was disappointing because they made it sound like there were going to be a lot more. Post race would’ve been nice but everything was so crowded it wasn’t worth the time. The BBQ ran out early and the lines for the remaining food options were over 100 people deep. Overall I was very disappointed with this race the course was not great, pre race logistics were terrible and while the medal was nice the rest of the post race festivities were too small to accommodate the amount of people there.

This was my first time running this race and looking at previous years maps this years new start/finish line was much better. Overall I liked the 1/2 course which was much hillier than I expected. Running over 2 bridges was a cool experience but time seemed to drag on when you were running between the two bridges on the Illinois side. As some previous reviews said there was a spot where it smelled like sewer but I only noticed it when going through one underpass and it was only a minute or two before I got past it so it really wasn’t that big of a deal to me. I thought the crowd support for the 1/2 was decent even though there were a few stretches where there was nobody in sight. This was probably the easiest I’ve ever had it as far as getting to the start line. I rode the MetroLink to the Lacledes Landing stop and the starting area was directly across the street which was great. After the race it was a long haul back to the post race area. The Arch grounds were under construction and there was a lot of orange fencing up so I’m hoping that once everything is complete they will move the after party closer to the finish line for next years race. Overall I enjoyed the half and plan on running the full marathon sometime in the next few years.

Entering and exiting this race is absolutely horrible. 45 minutes from the time we exited the highway until we were able to park and 1.5 hours to leave. The starting area needs more bathrooms as the lines were so long and barely moving that most people were just going into the bushes to go. The beginning of the course had great views of the desert. Somewhere around mile 12 you get into a very boring part of Mesa and you stay there for the rest of the race. Other than not having much to look at the second part of the course is mostly flat with some downhill. The aid stations were great and all of the volunteers were very friendly. The finish line area was nice but no beer was very disappointing. If they can improve the situation for entering and exiting the parking lots this could be a really good race that I would run again.
